Nashville, TN (May 18, 2012) – Critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Sunny Sweeneywill headline the Air National Guard (ANG) Stage during the Country Throwdown Tour (CTD), Fired up by Kingsford, which kicks off today (5/18), in Gulfport, MS. Throughout the 20-city summer trek, she will lend her voice and time to ANG’s presence on the tour.

“I am so honored to perform on the Air National Guard Stage. Being married to a police officer, I’m very aware of what our service people sacrifice on a daily basis. I can’t wait to meet with members of the ANG and fans this summer,” said Sweeney.

In each city, Sweeney will sign autographs at the ANG booth. There will be some surprises along the way, including a private, acoustic set and Meet & Greet on Sweeney’s bus during a couple of stops.

Sweeney also will join other artists on the tour for the ANG Grateful States Campaign, which recognizes the ANG airmen and families through photos and videos posted online by citizens across the United States. Gary Allan, Rodney Atkins, Justin Moore, Josh Thompson, Eric Paslay and more are slated for the CTD tour.

The Country Throwdown Tour returns to Southern Illinois on June 29 at Marion's Rent One Ballpark.

Sweeney has “a passion in her voice that lets you know she's taking every word personally” (USA Today) and has earned adoration from The Village Voice and Nashville Scene critics’ polls as well as The Washington Post, Houston Chronicle, American Songwriter and revered songwriter Radney Foster, who’s called Sunny, “a real songwriter. She digs deep around her soul.” Rounding out 2011, Billboard ranked the Longview, Texas native as one of the Top 5 New Country Artists and included her record-breaking Top 10 smash, From A Table Away” in the Top 100 Hot Country Songs.

Her first Republic Nashville album, CONCRETE, debuted at #7 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart, with Sweeney penning seven of the 10 tracks, including “From A Table Away,” which is the highest charting debut single for a female country artist in more than four years.

Never veering from her traditional roots, she is a favorite Grand Ole Opry guest, playing nearly 30 times since her debut in 2007, and has shared the stage with County music icons Loretta Lynn and Hank Williams, Jr., among others. Just last year, she performed in front of over one million fans across America after earning a coveted spot on Brad Paisley’s H2O II: Wetter & Wilder World Tour and has played support dates for Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker.
