Michael Morpurgo’s beloved novel, War Horse, is also the inspiration for Steven Spielberg’s feature film of the same name, which earned six Oscar nominations including Best Picture.

 

Hailed by The New York Times as “theatrical magic,” WAR HORSE is the powerful story of young Albert’s beloved horse, Joey, who has been enlisted to fight for the English in World War I. In a tale the New York Daily News calls “spellbinding, by turns epic and intimate,” Joey is caught in enemy crossfire and ends up serving both sides of the war before landing in no man’s land. Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home. What follows is a remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship, filled with stirring music and songs and told with the some of the most innovative stagecraft of our time.

 

The tour of WAR HORSE, which was adapted from the book by Morpurgo by Nick Stafford, is directed by Bijan Sheibani based on the original Tony^® Award-winning direction by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, and presented in association with Handspring Puppet Company. At the heart of the show are life-sized puppets which bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.

In addition to Best Play, WAR HORSE received Tony^® Awards for Best Direction of a Play (Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris), Best Scenic Design of a Play (Rae Smith), Best Lighting Design of a Play (Paule Constable), and Best Sound Design of a Play (Christopher Shutt). A Special Tony Award was given to Handspring Puppet Company for their integral work on the production.

 

WAR HORSE received its World Premiere in a limited engagement at the National’s Olivier Theatre in 2007. The play returned to the National Theatre for a second run playing from in 2008-2009 before transferring to the West End’s New London Theatre in Spring 2009 where it continues to play an open-ended run. WAR HORSE has been seen by over 2 million people worldwide and is currently playing at New York’s Lincoln Center Theater, in London’s West End, and at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre. With their new album, time melts and the band that refused to conform while leaving a feel-good impression on their audiences, has once again found the way to make genre-defying soul music.

“Their mix of Latin horns and rhythms, crisp telecaster leads and the Roy Orbison-like voice of Raul Malo remains as engaging as ever,” according to the Associated Press.

During a two-hour sold-out show last night (2/25), fans were given a taste of The Mavericks’ flair at New York’s famed Bowery Ballroom. On Friday (3/1), they are slated to perform “Come Unto Me” on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, which airs on NBC at 11:35P ET/10:35P CT.

Even before its official release, the project has already earned critical acclaim from some of the top music reviewers.

Country Weekly insists it is, “laden with hooky beats, blaring horns and the Orbisonesque voice of Raul." The Oakland Press hails the album as, “…characteristically broad and bold, bringing the Mavericks back just ‘In Time’ and certainly well worth waiting for.” The Salt Lake Tribune believes IN TIME, “…resurrects the best ingredients of the ‘country’ band that began in Miami and embraced a style that not only honored Buck Owens and Patsy Cline but incorporated Tex-Mex as well as dynamic Cuban rhythms.”

IN TIME debuted in Australia last month (1/18) and was a Top 20 album. Nashville, TN (February 26, 2013) – The mega-stars continue to lineup for George Jones’ final concert, which is set for Friday, November 22, 2013 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.  Garth Brooks, Kid Rock, Shelby Lynne, The Oak Ridge Boys and Sam Moore are the latest acts announced for the historic event.
 
The celebrity packed lineup also includes Dierks Bentley, Charlie Daniels, Jamey Johnson, Montgomery Gentry, Lorrie Morgan, Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Tanya Tucker, Josh Turner and Gene Watson. More stars are expected to be announced as performers gear up to pay tribute to one of the world’s most accomplished recording artists.

“Being joined by so many incredible singers while doing what I love will be truly heartwarming,” says George Jones. “It’s shaping up to be more than I expected or could have ever imagined,” he adds.

TIM MCGRAW'S "ONE OF THOSE NIGHTS" SNAGS THE NO. ONE SPOT TO BECOME HIS 33RD CAREER NO. ONE

 

Nashville, TN — Feb. 25, 2013 -- Country superstar and consistent hitmaker Tim McGraw claimed his 33rd No. one single this week with "One Of Those Nights" claiming the top spot on the Billboard Country chart. The single, from his No. one selling album TWO LANES OF FREEDOM (Big Machine Records), follows a multitude of chart-topping hits ranging from "Don't Take The Girl" and "I Like It, I Love It"  to "Where The Green Grass Grows," "The Cowboy In Me" and "Live Like You Were Dying."

My Brother Marvin is a gripping, riveting and dramatic account of the life of the man who transformed and revolutionized the landscape of soul music—Marvin Gaye.  Everything his label and lovers didn't want you to know, stories swept under the rug about him and his family and secrets once thought to be buried with him and his mother surface and are now revealed in  My Brother Marvin. It delves into the story that framed the life and engineered the tragic death of iconic soul legend Marvin Gaye. The play specifically focuses on Marvin’s relationship with his mother, father and siblings. The story is inspired by and told from the vantage point of Marvin’s sister Zeola “Sweetsie” Gaye. My Brother Marvin achieves what other offerings have previously failed to do—give the uncut, unadulterated, untainted truth about Marvin Gaye. The show also features original music inspired by Marvin Gaye and the musical era he influenced.

“Through the years, I became taken aback and disappointed with everything that had been written, said and published about my family, especially my brother Marvin that wasn’t accurate,” said Zeola Gaye. “In the play,  I simply wanted to set the record straight. I wanted to leave a true account about Marvin the man and our family. People need to know what really happened and Marvin would want his fans to really know what happened. We are finally bringing the truth the world needs and must know .”

My Brother Marvin the stage play was conceived by Zeola Gaye. It is directed by acclaimed actor Clifton Powell (Next Friday, Ray, Dead Presidents) who also stars as Marvin Gaye's father in the show and is being produced by Detroit Touring Group. My Brother Marvin is written and adapted for the stage by heralded urban theatre playwright—Angela Barrow-Dunlap. Undoubtedly, Barrow-Dunlap is the premiere and most acclaimed writer, director, producer in the urban theatre circuit to date. My Brother Marvin is just one of many hit shows she's been at the helm of creatively. My Brother Marvin stars Grammy nominated R&B singer, actor and radio host Keith Washington ("Kissing You" and "Make Time for Love"), who plays Marvin Gaye in his latter years. Also bringing Marvin Gaye to life during his early years is veteran urban theatre actor and singer Tony Grant and child protégé Havier Hill-Roller who plays Marvin Gaye as a child. Also starring in the show is Emmy Award winning actress Lynn Whitfield (Josephine Baker Story, Eve’s Bayou, Head of State, Madea’s Family Reunion) who plays Marvin’s mother, Alberta and Image Award winning actor Clifton Powell as Marvin Gaye, Sr.

My Brother Marvin made its’ off Broadway theatrical premiere in Detroit, Michigan in 2006 during the Christmas Holiday. It received rave reviews and would go on to play a limited engagement tour in theatres in  Philly, Chicago, Oakland, Memphis, Oklahoma, Kansas City and Little Rock. During the 2006-2007 Season, the play’s storyline was told from the sole perspective of Zeola Gaye and her book. Recently, Zeola discovered the private memoirs of their mother and letters of their father, adding some very integral elements and scenes to the original storyline presented in the play. It was believed that Marvin's mother, Alberta Gaye took her secrets to her grave, until the recent discovery of her hidden journals, in which she writes candidly about her husband, her family and of course her superstar son. Now, the world will hear and see it all.

NASHVILLE, TN (February 19, 2013): Brantley Gilbert kicked off the second leg of his HELL ON WHEELS TOUR with a bang. Having already performed to seven sold-out arenas in Kansas City, MO; Lincoln, NE; Mankato, MN; Corbin, KY; Morgantown, WV; Augusta, GA and Chattanooga, TN, Gilbert is ramping up to perform two more shows this weekend. He and special guest Kip Moore will perform to full houses in Tulsa, OK (2/22) and Thackerville, OK (2/23).

Music critics have noted the close connection Brantley maintains with his fans during the live performances:

Best known for his work on NBC's "30 Rock" and "Saturday Night Live," Tracy Morgan was first introduced to television audiences in his role as "Hustleman" on the hit comedy series "Martin." He went on to join SNL in 1996, where he appeared for seven seasons and created such memorable characters as "Astronaut Jones" and "Brian Fellows." After leaving SNL, Morgan went on to star in his own comedy series, "The Tracy Morgan Show," and voice "Spoonie Luv" on Comedy Central's "Crank Yankers."
Having starring on NBC's Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning "30 Rock," Morgan appeared opposite Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin as "Tracy Jordan," the unpredictable star of Lemon's (Fey) hit variety show, "TGS with Tracy Jordan."
