Fans are thrilled and media is raving with a flurry of buzz eliciting a hunger for more music, more signature swagger … more of The Mavericks. Stream the full album in advance this entire week on NPR First Listen via http://www.npr.org/2015/02/08/384056172/first-listen-the-mavericks-mono and hear why Ann Powers claimed, “Music this seductive earns the title timeless."
The ability to transcend time, to merge Latin cultures seamlessly with American rock/pop/country standards, to offer the erogenous without salacious slather, The Mavericks […] created a new world for post-country country—as musically satisfying as it is hormone-peaking.”
- PASTE

The Mavericks became great by cutting through the din in smoky rooms where studio tricks didn't factor in — only a killer voice, indelible hooks and the ability to draw in even the most distracted listeners.”
- NPR

"Country's coolest, most versatile band, led by the silver-throated Raul Malo, returns with more country infused with elements of world music, rock, jazz and whatever else the group has decided to throw in."
-
ROLLING STONE COUNTRY

“…their sound is as sleek as ever. The record was recorded in just five days; that fact alone testifies to how strong they are live.”
-
THE VILLAGE VOICE

“With a sound as distinctive as John Fogerty or even Steely Dan, they managed to not only reconstitute themselves, but retain their visionary musically integrity. . . .On Mono, they’ve caught lightning in a bottle yet again.”
-
VINTAGE GUITAR
With a Cuban-American lead singer, garage band ferocity, an intense live show and a deep love of both romance and pure country to go with the polyrhythmic beats they were raised on, The Mavericks were unlikely superstars. Yet, their raucous, genre-defying force broke ground with hits like “Here Comes The Rain,” “Crying Shame,” “Dance The Night Away” and “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down” and scored industry awards in prestigious categories like Vocal Group and Album of the Year. While an indefinite divergence led them in different directions until the 2013 release of IN TIME and subsequent touring, The Mavericks have since topped many critics’ Best Of lists: American Songwriter, The Boston Globe, NPR, Los Angeles Times and New York Magazine.

PREVIEW THE MAVERICKS’ MONO ON NPR: FIRST LISTEN  NOW

Musical Comrades Release “Timeless” New Album (2/17) &
Launch Mono Mundo Tour (2/19) Next Week

Album Cover Art Courtesy of The Valory Music Co.
Nashville, TN ) – In anticipation of THE MAVERICKS’ album release next Tuesday, February 17, NPR: First Listen is previewing MONO (The Valory Music Co.) for fans a full week in advance. Esteemed critic Ann Powers claims, “Music this seductive earns the title timeless." Listen now via http://www.npr.org/2015/02/08/384056172/first-listen-the-mavericks-mono.
"Mono begins with a salsa workout, the sexy ‘All Night Long,’ and travels to the band's long-favorite Tejano territory for ‘Nitty Gritty.’ The fluidity of Latin music infuses the whole album, even when the flavor is Caribbean (‘When I'm With You’), heartaches-by-the-number country (‘Out The Door’) or Big Bopper rock (‘Stories We Could Tell’),” explains NPR’s Powers. "Their weapons are consummate skill, the clarion charisma of singer Raul Malo, and the wisdom to know that fun is what wins in the end.”

While in the studio the band realized that their songs required a different approach and the idea of creating an album without relying on stereo tricks of modern recording – in mono – was born. But it wasn’t the process alone that solidified the album title; with MONO, the band embraces cultural and musical diversity.

“When we went in to record this record, we were very resolved: we’d been through the time on the road, making the last album, living together as friends and as a band...We have nothing to lose, and only the music to gain,” says Malo, who along with his musical comrades believe in bringing people together – often in the name of good times and great music – which is the most universal language of all.

From their garage band roots in Miami Beach, The Mavericks have had a skill for melding a wealth of musical influences and getting people to groove. Industry awards, platinum albums, world tours, breakups and reformations later, The Mavericks recorded their critically-acclaimed album IN TIME and re-introduced music lovers to the band’s genre-defying music in 2013.

With the new release of MONO, The Mavericks find themselves making the most relevant music of their career, and according to NPR, “became great by cutting through the din in smoky rooms where studio tricks didn't factor in — only a killer voice, indelible hooks and the ability to draw in even the most distracted listeners.”

"The experience of making this record was quite unique. We had the luxury of a very finely tuned band and the energy from the last two years of touring under our belts. We all believed that it was going to be special and I think we would all agree that, our record MONO best represents what our band does live,” expresses guitarist Eddie Perez.

On February 19, The Mavericks will kick off their Mono Mundo Tour with headline dates domestically in Boston, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Minneapolis, Houston and internationally in London, Paris, Cologne, Hamburg, among others. DESTINATION AMERICA ANNOUNCES
GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING BAND
THE MAVERICKS
FOR UPCOMING “RED, WHITE AND YOU” FESTIVITIES
IN FAYETTEVILLE, NC AND UNION BEACH, NJ

Communities Awarded with a Memorable Fourth of July Celebration
Featuring Local Music, Kids Activities, Food, and Fireworks

Nashville, TN (June 21, 2013) – Destination America, the only television network that celebrates the people, places, and stories of the U.S., has lined up a spectacular party for the two winning towns of the RED, WHITE AND YOU contest – Fayetteville, NC, and Hurricane Sandy-ravaged Union Beach, NJ – headlined by country-steeped garage band The Mavericks. Most recently highlighted during this year’s nationally televised CMT Awards, the band will be the featured musical act at both RED, WHITE AND YOU events, with Union Beach scheduled for July 3 and Fayetteville on July 4.

“We’re thrilled to have The Mavericks, a band known for being one of the most exciting live performers, as part of the festivities in both of these worthy communities,” said Marc Etkind, general manager for Destination America. “Their infectious vibe paired with the activities, food, and fireworks display will no doubt leave a lasting impression and, hopefully help strengthen the spirit, patriotism, and tradition of this all important holiday – America’s birthday – in Union Beach and Fayetteville!”

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the opportunity to play for these two outstanding communities on this special occasion. We’re honored to have been invited, and look forward to celebrating with everyone,” said Raul Malo, lead singer of The Mavericks.

Additional planning is in the works for each city to enjoy a tailor-made celebration. Union Beach will be treated to BBQ from stars of Destination America’s hit series, BBQ PITMASTERS, with both Myron Mixon and Tuffy Stone confirmed to be on location. LAST CALL FOOD BRAWL host Adam Gertler (Next Food Network Star) will be master of ceremonies in both towns. In Fayetteville, and in partnership with Time Warner Cable, there will be a more patriotic nod to our country’s armed forces: the 82nd Airborne Division Chorus will perform after a traditional Posting of the Colors and remarks from Maj. Gen. Jeffrey N. Colt, deputy commanding general, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg.

Destination America partnered with national weekly magazine USA WEEKEND for the first-ever RED, WHITE AND YOU contest, awarding two deserving communities a one-of-a-kind Fourth of July celebration. Launched in March, the contest asked folks across the country to put their patriotism on display to prove why their respective towns were most deserving of an over-the-top Independence Day party. With more than 3,500 entries, the two grand prize winners proved to be very worthy communities: Union Beach, NJ, a coastal town still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, and Fayetteville, NC, a community which zealously supports its military partners at Fort Bragg. Five runner-up towns were also awarded $1,000 each to be used toward one of the following local organizations: Parks and Recreation Department, YMCA/YWCA, or Habitat for Humanity.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS: Forget the GRAMMYs, the CMA and ACM Awards for prestigious things like Vocal Group and Album of the Year. Never mind the sold out shows in England’s Royal Albert Hall or taking country to places the genre had never been. With a Cuban-American lead singer, garage band ferocity, an intense live show and a deep love of both romance and pure country to go with the polyrhythmic beats The Mavericks were raised on, they were unlikely superstars. Yet, The Mavericks distilled country’s essences, bulked them up with a big, raucous sound, then broke ground for the format that saw people from all walks of life, many cultures and some surprising places lining up for hits like “Here Comes The Rain,” “Crying Shame,” “Dance The Night Away” and “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down.”

Twenty years later, the little band that could returns, more soulful and innovative than ever. Again drawing on myriad influences – from Buck Owens’ tonk to Roy Orbison’s heartbreak, Ravel’s eroticism to Buena Vista Social Club’s infectious rhythms, Patsy Cline’s brazen emotion and that little “Mavericks’ magic.” For their first sessions in almost a decade, it was spontaneous combustion; literally, the band falling into step with the euphoria they were known for. And they built quite an album from there. The Mavericks released their first album, IN TIME, on The Valory Music Co. on February 26.

With their new album, time melts and the band that refused to conform while leaving a feel-good impression on their audiences, has once again found the way to make genre-defying soul music.

“Their mix of Latin horns and rhythms, crisp telecaster leads and the Roy Orbison-like voice of Raul Malo remains as engaging as ever,” according to the Associated Press.

While the four-star review from the Los Angeles Times says, singer-songwriter Raul Malo and his Nashville-based compatriots draw freely, and joyously, from regional cultures spanning North and South America on a collection that will be hard to top as the year's most scintillating pop music outing.

During a two-hour sold-out show last night (2/25), fans were given a taste of The Mavericks’ flair at New York’s famed Bowery Ballroom. On Friday (3/1), they are slated to perform “Come Unto Me” on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, which airs on NBC at 11:35P ET/10:35P CT.

Even before its official release, the project has already earned critical acclaim from some of the top music reviewers.

Country Weekly insists it is, “laden with hooky beats, blaring horns and the Orbisonesque voice of Raul." The Oakland Press hails the album as, “…characteristically broad and bold, bringing the Mavericks back just ‘In Time’ and certainly well worth waiting for.” The Salt Lake Tribune believes IN TIME, “…resurrects the best ingredients of the ‘country’ band that began in Miami and embraced a style that not only honored Buck Owens and Patsy Cline but incorporated Tex-Mex as well as dynamic Cuban rhythms.”

IN TIME debuted in Australia last month (1/18) and was a Top 20 album. Australia’s Rhythms raves, "the band sounds better than The Traveling Wilburys' wildest dreams...fronted by a Cuban Roy Orbison...I can't think of another band that can take the listener back to the golden days of rock 'n' roll without deliberately trying to sound retrospective."

In the UK earlier this month, the album peaked at #2 on iTunes UK Country store (just under Taylor Swift's RED) and is the #1 best-selling Country album on Amazon UK.

Q Magazine in the UK gave the album a four-star review saying the guys are, "back after a nine-year siesta, Miami's retro-nuevo-Tejano-mariachi-country-rock hyphanates sound refreshed, recharged and better than ever." BBC Radio 2, the UK’s largest radio station, has already added “Back In Your Arms Again” to its playlist and Mexico City’s most listened to Pop station, Alfa Radio, has named The Mavericks as their “Artist of the Month.”

The multi-year GRAMMY, ACM and CMA Vocal Group will hit the road later this spring with their high-energy live show. Visit themavericksband.com for tour dates and more.

The project will coincide with the band’s 20th anniversary of their first major label album. In anticipation of the new release date, the Mavericks have re-launched an all-new website at http://www.themavericksband.com

The Mavericks' distinct sound, which has taken Country to places the genre has never been, is again evident throughout the new 14-track album which includes a bonus version of “Come Unto Me” in Spanish ("Ven Hacia Mi"). IN TIME was produced by lead singer Raul Malo and Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Warren Zevon).

With their new album, time melts once again and the band that defied definitions, blurred genres, and made everybody feel good, is back. Whether it’s the Buck Owens-influenced “Dance In The Moonlight,” the panoramic Orbison-esque “Born To Be Blue,”  the horn-punctuated retro noir “Back In Your Arms Again” or the Tejano-esque “All Over Again,” the Mavericks have once again found the way to make genre-defying soul music.
