St. Louis – Electronic dance music DJ Bassnectar brings nearly two decades of multi-genre mixes to Chaifetz Arena at Saint Louis University on Saturday, October 6 at 7 p.m.  The performance is the seventh chapter of the nationwide tradition of blow-out Bass Center events and includes Zeds Dead, Gramatik, and Gladkill as special guests.

Bassnectar is the genre-bending brainchild of Lorin Ashton. Ashton, who grew up in Silicon Valley, has cited bands from rock group Metallica to early electronic dance music artist Orbital as influencers of his constantly changing style of music, prompting Rolling Stone to describe him as “Death Metal Kid to Superstar DJ.” He has collaborated with the popular hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco and remixed chart topping songs such as Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” while still maintaining his two foot long hair and “metalhead” look.

Bassnectar was the third highest-selling dance music DJ in solo concert ticket sales last year behind Tiesto and Deadmau5.  After selling out venues and headlining festivals such as Lollapalooza, Ultra and Coachella, Bassnectar created his own festival in 2011 in New York City which brought 10,000 fans to Govenor’s Island last fall.

Bassnectar brings his tour to St. Louis in support of his latest album, Vava Voom which was released in April 2012. Vava Voom peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums and was Bassnectar’s third album to reach the No. 2 spot following Divergent Spectrum in 2011.

Known for his elaborate light shows, Bassnectar strives to put on a show for all of the viewer’s senses. The shows are a celebration of music and community. Bassnectar is very passionate about the family community he hopes to achieve at every show and even takes a “family picture” with himself and the crowd after each performance.
