DIERKS BENTLEY ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR HIS 2015 SOUNDS OF SUMMER TOUR

Kip Moore, Maddie & Tae and Canaan Smith Plunge Into the New Tour With Exclusive Video on PEOPLE.com

NASHVILLE, TN -  Coming off of an electric year with capacity crowds in amphitheaters across the country, PLATINUM selling singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley announced his plans for the 2015 SOUNDS OF SUMMER TOUR today. The 40 city run will kick off June 5 in Raleigh, NC and continue through the summer with friends Kip Moore, Maddie & Tae and Canaan Smith stacking the lineup. Fans can purchase tickets beginning Jan. 26 for first cities as part of tour promoter Live Nation’s Country Megaticket at www.Megaticket.com with additional ticket info for each market coming available in the weeks ahead at www.dierks.com.

"There have been tours in my career that I thought would be impossible to top, and the past 12 months certainly rank as some of the best and most fun nights of my life," said Bentley. "I expect 2015 to beat all of it. II've really loved having three other artists out there with us…just more fun on and off the stage and knowing that the fans are getting more music for their money is important to me. Kip, Maddie & Tae and Canaan are three of the hottest rising artists out there right now, and I feel fortunate to be spending the summer with them. If our first 'tour meeting' is any indication, they are up for anything, which is awesome. No one is going to have more fun this summer than us!"

Earlier this morning, Bentley invited his tourmates to a meeting in Nashville where they were challenged with plunging into the new year and new tour with him, and the challenge was accepted. Click here to watch PEOPLE's exclusive video.

Last year’s RISER TOUR found Bentley commanding the attention of media across the country, with critics calling his performances “captivating” with a “new depth” (The Plain Dealer) and affirming “crowds from coast to coast now know Bentley’s strengths as a headliner” (Indianapolis Star). Night after night, Bentley “rose to the occasion like a pro, as though headlining is what the man was born to do” (Arizona Republic).

Bentley's critically acclaimed and No. one selling album RISER has already produced back-to-back hits “I Hold On” and “Drunk On A Plane," making him one of only three country artists to earn two RIAA certified PLATINUM and No. one hits in 2014. Bentley has notched 12 chart-topping singles, over five million albums sold, countless CMA, ACM and CMT nominations and membership into the Grand Ole Opry. Bentley recently received his 12th GRAMMY nod with “Country Album Of The Year” for RISER at the upcoming 57th Annual Awards airing in Feb. 2015. The Phoenix native will kick off the year as part of CBS Radio’s “The Night Before” the Super Bowl special airing from his hometown on Jan. 31.

Since the release of MCA Nashville Kip Moore's debut album, UP ALL NIGHT, the singer-songwriter has earned multi-platinum sales and critical acclaim for his "high energy" (Rolling Stone) live show. Recently named American Country Countdown Award's "Breakthrough Artist Of The Year," Moore launched his own headlining tour last fall with multiple sold-out dates and recently earned PLATINUM certification for his No.One smash hit "Hey Pretty Girl," and DOUBLE PLATINUM status for his chart-topping breakout hit "Somethin' 'Bout A Truck."

The fastest rising female act in eight years, Maddie & Tae introduced their Dot Records' debut single “Girl In A Country Song” with a No. one at Country radio and GOLD certification. The two songstresses penned all four songs on their self-titled EP, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s New Artist Heatseekers chart. Maddie & Tae have made national television appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman and TODAY.

Mercury Nashville singer/songwriter Canaan Smith was named a 2015 Artist To Watch by both The Huffington Post and Yahoo! Music. Smith’s current single “Love You Like That” has already sold an impressive 139,000+ tracks and continues to climb the country airplay charts reaching No. one on SiriusXM’s The Highway Hot 45 Countdown. Currently, Smith is in the studio finalizing his debut album expected to release later this year. Ole Smoky® Tennessee Moonshine will return as tour sponsor of the 2015 SOUNDS OF SUMMER TOUR. Dierks Bentley Sets His Life to Song on Riser

By Vernell Hackett
© 2014 CMA Close Up® News Service / Country Music Association®, Inc.
Any successful career requires time away from home. No one knows that better than Dierks Bentley. And few artists are as willing to share what this means in song, as Bentley does on his most personal album to date, Riser.
The overall theme of Riser is discovery and allowing fans a more intimate glimpse into Bentley. To that end, his manager, Mary Hilliard Harrington, suggested he make a documentary of his life and the things he was going through.
“We could hear that in the music, from the first songs he turned in from the first writing sessions,” she said. “I knew early on that this was going to be more of an album project in a singles-driven world and that we would need to tell the story of the entire project in order for the fans to truly understand and appreciate it. I hope the documentary helps do that.”
Directed by Wes Edwards and premiered on CMT in February, “Dierks Bentley: Riser” is less a music video than it is a candid, slice-of-life documentary. When first approached about it, Bentley was skeptical. “I didn’t feel like I had time,” he said. “I had my hands full trying to tour and finish a record, and I didn’t want to add more work to that. Mary pushed me into doing it, but once we started I was like, ‘Thank God we are doing this.’
“It’s an interesting time in my life right now, having these kids at a certain age, going full bore with my career, my dad passing away, my son being born,” he continued. “I’m glad we captured it all. You see the show and backstage, but you also see me in my kitchen and me pushing the kids on the swing. And you’re in the hospital with us when Knox was born. It’s pretty personal.”
“The video is just as I envisioned it,” Harrington said. “It gives a complete picture of Dierks and this album. I love the moments with Evie, Jordan and Knox because it shows what an incredible dad he is. I get choked up hearing him talk about his dad Leon because I know what a special relationship they had.”
After the recording was completed, Capitol Records Nashville released “Bourbon in Kentucky” (Ryan Tyndell, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson) as its first single. With its theme of drowning the pain of lost love in drink, it wasn’t exactly a typical summer-fun song for the season. Some radio stations even declined to play it.
“I was proud we put that one out there first, even though we knew it was against the grain,” Bentley said. “I got honest feedback from radio. Some guys just said, ‘When we play it, it is so real and honest, it just sticks out in the midst of these summertime radio songs.’”
Capitol decided not to release Riser as early as first announced, which proved be a blessing in disguise for Bentley. “I would love for ‘Bourbon’ to have been a hit for the songwriters, but it allowed me to step back, write some more songs and incorporate all the fun I had on the road with Miranda (Lambert) on the ‘Locked & Reloaded Tour.’”
Bentley’s “Riser” tour kicked off May 9 in Charlotte, North Carolina, with Jon Pardi, Chase Rice and Chris Young. “These guys have so much energy and they are fired up to be out there,” the headliner said. “I want it to be a testosterone-driven, fist-pumping deal. I’m throwing everything into it. I’m going out as if it were the last tour of my life.”

Jon Pardi, Chase Rise, and Chris Young will join the ‘I Hold On’ hitmaker on his 2014 road run, which he announced via Twitter in a seriously creative way, hacking CMT’s page to share clues.
“Can’t wait to ‘Stay Up All Night’ and “party” with this dude,” Bentley wrote, hinting at Pardi’s place on the tour. “Here comes the next artist on the #RISERTOUR! Ready, set, roll..” he added, breaking the news about Rice.

CMA PRESENTS TRIPLE PLAY AWARDS AT ANNUAL SONGWRITERS LUNCHEON

During the Luncheon, CMA Chairman Troy Tomlinson Announces $250,000 CMA Foundation Donation to Help Construct the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame at the new Music City Center
NASHVILLE – Third time’s the charm at the annual CMA Songwriters Luncheon with the presentation of the CMA Triple Play Awards, which honor songwriters who pen three chart-topping hits in a 12-month period. During the event held today at Marathon Music Works in Nashville, a dozen songwriters received the three-peat trophy from CMA Board Chairman Troy Tomlinson, President and CEO, Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville.
“People from all over the world recognize that Nashville is not only Music City, but the epicenter of the songwriting community,” said Tomlinson. “CMA celebrates this important membership group. The presentation of the Triple Play Awards is just another example of CMA’s commitment to honoring the creators of song.”
CMA leadership gathers with the newly named CMA Triple Play Award winning songwriters on Jan. 29, 2013 at Marathon Music Works in Nashville, Tenn. “Nashville is legendary for its songwriters and CMA is proud to recognize this important segment of our industry,” said Steve Moore, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “It is an honor to present these songwriters and songwriting artists with the Triple Play Award and acknowledge this incredible accomplishment and their significant contributions to our format.”
Attending today’s luncheon were Dierks Bentley, Rodney Clawson, Brantley Gilbert, Ben Hayslip, Josh Kear, Shane McAnally, Eric Paslay, Neil Thrasher, and Chris Young. Also in attendance were hit tunesmiths from ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, as well as songwriter members of CMA and representatives of some of the most successful publishers in Music City.
Recognizing excellence is central to CMA’s mission and the Association recognizes songwriters throughout the year with the CMA Award for Song of the Year, which is presented on the annual broadcast to the winning songwriters, and the creation of a rotating category for songwriters in the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame.
In addition, the CMA Board of Directors created and launched the CMA Songwriter Series in 2005 at Joe’s Pub in New York City, which has grown to include shows in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Washington D.C. In 2012, the series expanded to the U.K. and Ireland and will be going back for a second time in February. On March 1, the Songwriter Series will take place in Paris for the first time as part of the CMA International Marketing Summit.
In alphabetical order, the recipients of CMA’s Triple Play Award:
  • Dierks Bentley: “Am I The Only One,” “Home,” “5-1-5-0”

“I'm so grateful to be a part of the Nashville family,” said Paslay. “One of my biggest dreams was to have a song on Country radio. Getting a No. 1 was sugar on top. Being honored by the CMA with a Triple Play Award has made 2012 the sweetest year of my life so far!”
“Considering my love for Country Music and my lifelong dream to have songs on the radio, I am blown away by the idea that I would have a No. 1 at all, much less three in one year,” said McAnally.

On Sept. 6, former CMA intern Dierks Bentley renewed his ties to the organization during a visit to New York City. Midday was devoted to a visit to PS 103, the Hector Fontanez School, in the Bronx, where a CMA donation of $20,000 enabled the school to open a music program for students for the first time.

To commemorate this first outreach beyond the Nashville area of CMA’s Keep the Music Playing program, the artist shared his thoughts with an assembly of fourth-graders about the value of learning about music – and was delighted when they started singing along as he performed “5-1-5-0,” which they had rehearsed prior to his arrival.
“It’s a great honor to be a part of this, to get a bunch of musical instruments to the classroom so teachers for the first time can have music as an option for their curriculum,” he reflected while on his way out from Manhattan for this event. “I’m really excited to see how all the money that’s been raised through CMA is being used here.”
Hours after receiving his surprise serenade, Bentley was back in Manhattan to participate in that evening’s CMA Songwriters Series show at Joe’s Pub, along with Jim Beavers, Jaren Johnston and host Bob DiPiero. The atmosphere there was a bit different than at PS 103. Certainly the audience was older. But both of these CMA initiatives are about bringing music to people in ways they might not yet have experienced.
“The big goal tonight is just to represent Country Music and CMA, to show all the work that goes into Country Music and provide a wide spectrum of what it is,” Bentley said. “What makes Country Music great, what comes out of these writers’ nights, is the song. We pass along, hopefully, some great songs to people, whether they’re Country fans or not. If they weren’t Country fans before, hopefully they’ll walk out as new ones.”
Most who take part in the Songwriters Series work behind the scenes, writing words and music that singers might turn into hits. Usually, though, at least one participant is a high-profile performer too. For them, these shows provide an interesting contrast to their usual onstage presentations.
“It’s totally different,” Bentley acknowledged. “Before my live shows, I’ll be listening to the Foo Fighters or Van Halen at the loudest possible volume, jumping up and down, going crazy. You have to get ready to go out and fight. Tonight, it’ll be a laid-back hang with the guys. We’ll have some beers, laugh and catch up. Then we’ll go out onstage with that same vibe, sit down on our stools, tell some stories and have fun with the crowd.”
Some preparation is involved, but spontaneity characterizes most of what happens in the CMA Songwriters Series. “There are definitely no set lists,” Bentley said. “You keep some songs in the back of your head and pick what you’re going to do by feeding off the guy before you and setting up the guy after you. If the two songs before you are about whiskey or something depressing, you want to pick it up — or vice versa. That’s completely different from what I do every other day.”
A key goal is to introduce the unsung heroes of Music Row and spotlight their songs as examples of modern Country craftsmanship. But there are performance elements in this setting too, just as on an arena stage. “This is really Bob DiPiero’s thing,” Bentley said. “He’s the top — the Kenny Chesney of writers’ rounds. He can hold the audience in the palm of his hand. Guys like Bob and Rivers Rutherford, they just smoke me every time in these writers’ nights.”
Having played his share of writer nights at the Bluebird Cafe, Douglas Corner Café and elsewhere as a newcomer to Nashville in the mid ‘90s, Bentley more than holds his own in any live situation — including a roomful of young fans at PS 103. That experience stirred memories of his experiences with music education, at Phoenix Country Day School in Arizona.
“They didn’t have electric guitars in the school band,” he remembered. “So I wanted to play bass guitar, but a guy named Ryan Fox had already lined that up. So I had to go with the saxophone, which was definitely not my instrument of choice. But it ended up being great. I learned to read music and to play along with other people. It definitely planted a seed and showed me that music could be played rather than just listened to.
Bentley thought for a second and then laughed. “I should have brought that saxophone along and donated it today. It might have had more use than it’s getting now.”
Upcoming shows in the CMA Songwriters Series will include Oct. 24 at Joe’s Bar in Chicago and Oct. 25 at Joe’s Pub in New York City; both will feature DiPiero as host, with Kendell Marvel, Leslie Satcher and Sunny Sweeney at both shows. And on Wednesday, Oct. 31, the CMA Songwriters Series debuts at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works, with host DiPiero, Kristian Bush of Sugarland and Brantley Gilbert confirmed thus far.

DIERKS BENTLEY TO PLAY CMA SONGWRITERS SERIES AT NEW YORK CITY’S JOE’S PUB ON SEPT. 13

Jim Beavers, Jaren Johnston, and Host Bob DiPiero Round Out the Line Up
NASHVILLE – The CMA Songwriters Series takes over New York City’s Joe’s Pub on Thursday, Sept. 13 (6:30 and 9:00 PM/ET show times, doors open 30 minutes prior to show). Tickets for this popular series go on sale today (3:00 PM/ET).
Featuring the 2005 CMA Horizon Award winner Dierks Bentley, the CMA Songwriters Series allows music fans insight into the stories behind some of their favorite songs.
“The CMA Songwriter series is a really cool gig,” said Bentley. "Joe's Pub is so intimate and the audience is a huge part of those shows because they're so close. It's like everybody in the room is in on a secret or something. You've got four guys with guitars, telling stories and drinking whiskey…anything can happen!”
CMA Award winning singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley has forged his own brand of Country Music combining classic Country songwriting, influences of bluegrass instrumentation and the energy of rock & roll. He recently made plans to toast the end of summer with the release of a four song EP titled Country & Cold Cans available Aug. 21 on iTunes, while simultaneously kicking off tailgating season with a limited Country & Cold Cans: Back To College Tour. The new music follows Bentley’s sixth studio album Home, released earlier this year, which debuted at No. 1 and has spawned three chart-toppings hits marking 10 career No. 1 songs as a singer and songwriter. His five previous studio albums have sold over five million copies and garnered an invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry.
Joining Bentley will be Jim Beavers (“Felt Good On My Lips” recorded by Tim McGraw, “Why Don’t We Just Dance” recorded by Josh Turner, “5-1-5-0” and “Trying to Stop Your Leaving” both recorded by Bentley), Jaren Johnston (“You Gonna Fly” recorded by Keith Urban, “Anywhere” recorded by Sara Evans, and “The Woods” recorded by Bentley), and the evening’s host, Bob DiPiero (“Southern Voice” recorded by Tim McGraw, “Blue Clear Sky” recorded by George Strait, and “You Can’t Take the Honky Tonk Out of the Girl” recorded by Brooks & Dunn).
Tickets for the Sept. 13 CMA Songwriters Series at Joe’s Pub are $40 and $35 each. For information about Joe’s Pub or to order tickets, visit www.joespub.com or call (212) 967-7555 between the hours of noon and 8:00 PM/ET. Joe’s Pub is located at 425 Lafayette St. in New York City.
