IRVINE, Ca. (June 18, 2015) – George Jones’s name is at the top of the charts again, but this time it’s not for music. The George Jones White Lightning signature brand of moonshine received highest honors in the 2015 SIP Awards. George Jones White Lightning Apple Pie took home a Platinum Medal for Unaged Flavor Infused Whiskey/Moonshine. The award underscores the high quality of the signature whiskeys, which are available exclusively at the George Jones Museum.

“George always wanted to own his own brand of whiskey,” said Nancy Jones, George’s widow. “This was one of the promises I made to him before he died, that I’d make that dream come true.”

The Spirit International Prestige Awards are held annually and gauge consumer satisfaction with spirits. The SIP Awards rank among the most prestigious awards available for liquor products. They are given annually to the top spirits in the world.

This is the first year George Jones White Lightning entered the competition. It was released in April, when the George Jones Museum, restaurant, event space, and rooftop restaurant first opened.

Future Home of George Jones Museum Announced 

 
Possum Legend, LLC Acquires 128 and 130 2nd Ave N in Downtown Nashville

– Nancy Jones announced recently that she will soon unveil plans to open the George Jones Museum.  The museum and event center will incorporate a gift shop, restaurant, event space and also a music venue.  At 128 and 130 N Second Avenue, the popular tourist destination formerly known as Graham Central Station, will become a four-story, 44,000 square foot immersion in the legend and legacy of George Glenn Jones.

"We are overjoyed to share George's legacy and memory with the Nashville community," said Nancy Jones. "We hope that this will draw George's friends and fans worldwide to our great city.  George and I made this our home, and he would be happy to know that we found a home to continue his legacy in the heart of Music City."

Designs are underway with imminent plans to reveal in detail all that will be offered at the museum.

GEORGE JONES 'AMAZING GRACE'
TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 10, 2013

Nashville, Tenn. (July 31, 2013) - Bandit Records will proudly releaseGEORGE JONES – AMAZING GRACE on September 10th, two days before what would have been Jones’ 82nd birthday.  Jones, a partner in Bandit Records, recorded the gospel songs with producer Billy Sherrill in 2002 with the exception of one track, “Great Judgment Morning,” which was produced by Brian Ahern in 1994. The Billy Sherrill songs represent the final sessions between Jones and Sherrill.  Sherrill had retired and was not interested in going back into the studio.  Jones was persistent in trying to get Sherrill to do one last project and they finally agreed to do a Gospel Collection.  It also marked the first time that Jones’ had actually recorded an entire Gospel project and not just isolated songs tacked onto the end of secular sessions. “Great Judgment Morning” was one of those songs tacked onto the end of his Bradley Barn recording sessions.  Assembled that day were friends such as Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter, Travis Tritt, Ricky Skaggs, Marty Stuart and Connie Smith who all added their vocal interpretations of that classic gospel favorite. Jones passed away on April 26, 2013 surrounded by family and friends. AMAZING GRACE had already been planned and blessed by Jones before his passing.  Gospel music had always brought peace and calm to Jones throughout his turbulent life.  He was reverential in his approach to singing sacred songs and didn’t believe vocal theatrics should be involved. His eloquent and moving rendition of “Amazing Grace” was used during the video/ bio segment of his Kennedy Center Honors Induction in 2008 and resulted in hundreds of calls asking for the recording.  The record has not been in the marketplace since 2005 (to the degree that is possible in the digital age). George Jones was a partner in Bandit Records and his widow, Nancy Jones, continues to be.  Bandit Records was established in 2000 and served as the first label that Jones had a vested interest in and the final record label in Jones illustrious career.  During that time and in spite of his advanced age, his recordings continued to excite audiences, earn major award nominations and sell in respectful numbers.  It is a testament to his talent that Jones had charting records in six decades and earned Gold certification well into his late 70s.

GEORGE JONES DEAD AT 81

Nashville, Tenn. (April 26, 2013) – Country Music Hall of Famer, Grand Ole Opry member, and Kennedy Center Honoree George Glenn Jones died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He was hospitalized April 18 with fever and irregular blood pressure.

Born September 12, 1931, Jones is regarded among the most important and influential singers in American popular music history. He was the singer of enduring country music hits including “She Thinks I Still Care,” “The Grand Tour,” “Walk Through This World With Me,” “Tender Years” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” the latter of which is often at the top of industry lists of the greatest country music singles of all time.

“A singer who can soar from a deep growl to dizzying heights, he is the undisputed successor of earlier natural geniuses such as Hank Williams and Lefty Frizzell,” wrote Bob Allen in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s “Encyclopedia of Country Music.”

Jones was born in Saratoga, Texas, and he played on the streets of Beaumont for tips as a teenager. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps before returning to Texas and recording for the Starday label in Houston, Texas. In 1955, his “Why Baby Why” became his first Top 10 country single, peaking at number four and beginning a remarkable commercial string: Jones would ultimately record more than 160 charting singles, more than any other artist in any format in the history of popular music.

Jones’ first number one hit came in 1959 with “White Lightning,” a Mercury Records single that topped Billboard country charts for five weeks. He moved on to United Artists and then to Musicor, notching hits including “She Thinks I Still Care,” “The Race Is On,” “A Good Year for the Roses” and “Walk Through This World With Me.”

Jones signed with Epic Records in 1971 and worked with producer Billy Sherrill to craft a sound at once elegant and rooted, scoring with “The Grand Tour,” “Bartenders Blues” and many more. Sherrill also produced duets between Jones and his then-wife Tammy Wynette, and in the 1970s they scored top-charting hits including “We’re Gonna Hold On,” “Golden Ring” and “Near You.”

By the time “Golden Ring” and “Near You” hit in 1976, Jones and Wynette were divorced, and Jones was battling personal demons. His solo career cooled until 1980, when he recorded “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” a ballad penned by Curly Putman and Bobby Braddock that helped Jones win Country Music Association prizes for best male vocal and top single. “He Stopped Loving Her Today” revived a flagging career, and Jones won the CMA’s top male vocalist award in 1980 and 1981. He also earned a Grammy for best male country vocal performance.

In 1983, Jones married the former Nancy Ford Sepulvado. The union, he repeatedly said, began his rehabilitation from drugs and alcohol and prolonged his life. He signed with MCA Records in 1990 and began a successful run, and he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992. His guest vocal on Patty Loveless’ “You Don’t Seem To Miss Me” won a CMA award for top vocal event in 1998, and it became his final Top 20 country hit.

In 1999, Jones nearly died in a car wreck, but he recovered and resumed touring and recording. He remained a force in music until his death, playing hundreds of shows in the new century and collecting the nation’s highest arts award, the Kennedy Center Honor for lifetime achievement, in 2008. In late 2012, Jones announced his farewell tour, which was to conclude with a sold-out, star-packed show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on November 22, 2013. Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Randy Travis, Charlie Daniels, Kenny Rogers, Sam Moore, The Oak Ridge Boys and many others were set to perform at Jones’ Bridgestone show.

Jones is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Nancy Jones, his sister Helen Scroggins, and by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Nashville, TN (March 25, 2013) – George Jones’ final Nashville concert, to be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Bridgestone Arena, has SOLD OUT with over 15,000 people planning to attend.  Today, a VIP Experience including a special George Jones autographed item and the chance to meet ‘the possum’ backstage is available exclusively through GeorgeJones.com.   The VIP Experience is being offered for $1000.00 each and only 100 VIP tickets are available (first come, first served).
