Toby Keith continues to keep the party rolling
by Scott Kiefer
Country music superstar Toby Keith has been known to raise a few eyebrows with some of his songs, as well as providing what is known as "good time music" for his legions of fans. His current single, "I Like Girls That Drink Beer," is no exception. The song has done well since it's July 24 release, rising on Billboard's Country Songs chart, climbing to number 27.
“We were in the studio and everybody who heard it was like, 'You've got to release that,’” Keith said.
Written by Keith with longtime collaborator Bobby Pinson, "I Like Girls That Drink Beer" marries a dyed-in-the-wool country sound with an equally on-point sentiment: "Bye bye, baby I'm leavin'/You can keep your mansion and your money/Your boat and your Benz and your uptown friends/And your country club that ain't really country."
The song is the lead-off single on Keith's new album, "Hope on the Rocks," due November 13.
A press release states that the album is "the latest result of Toby's relentless creative process — writing, performing and producing." Keith produced the LP and was its principle songwriter.
Hope on the Rocks will be available in standard (ten songs) and deluxe (14 songs) editions. His last album, Clancy's Tavern, was released in 2011 and yielded the R.I.A.A.-certified platinum single "Red Solo Cup."
In other related news, it has been announced that Keith will have a total of 19 I Love This Bar & Grill restaurants across the country by the end of the year, seven years after opening the original in Oklahoma City.
An annual on the touring calendar through the St. Louis market, Keith's shows continue to draw heavy to near sell-out crowds, much to his large show production, and his large catalog of hits.
