LARRY GATLIN & THE GATLIN BROTHERS
STRIKE “BLACK GOLD” ON
LATE LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG FERGUSON THIS FRIDAY
New York, NY (January 25, 2011) – It was the city of Los Angeles that played an intricate part in catapulting Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers into stardom. In 1979, while sitting in a grueling LA traffic jam on Highland Avenue, Larry Gatlin was inspired to write the biggest hit of the band's illustrious career, "All The Gold In California."
This weekend, Larry, Rudy and Steve Gatlin are back in Los Angeles, California and yes, they’re still singing about gold. Tune in to the CBS Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson this Friday night (January 28) and catch country music’s GRAMMY Award-winning harmonic siblings perform “Black Gold,” the latest single from the Gatlin Brothers’ critically acclaimed new album, Pilgrimage (Curb Records).
During the 1970s and 1980s, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers became one of country music’s most popular acts, introducing a new ‘countrypolitan’ sound to the genre. Larry Gatlin has a total of 33 Top 40 singles under his belt, including both his solo recordings and those with his brothers. The band’s biggest hits include, “Broken Lady,” “All the Gold In California,” “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You),” “She Used to Be Somebody’s Baby,” and “Talkin’ to the Moon.”

Jimmy Buffett leaves hospital
left hospital on Thursday, a day after he fell off a stage at the end of a Sydney concert and was knocked unconscious, Australian television reported.
Buffett departed St. Vincent's Hospital in inner Sydney via a back entrance to avoid the media after doctors gave him the all-clear on Thursday morning, Ten Network television reported.
Medical staff said the singer had suffered a head injury, but added he was in good spirits and lucky to have recovered so quickly from the fall at Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday night.
Witnesses attending his show described hearing a "crack" as Buffett's head hit the floor following an encore performance of his song "Lovely Cruise."
"He really took a very nasty tumble," the hospital's emergency department director Gordian Fulde, who attended the concert, told Seven Network television.
"He just didn't see the drop in front of the stage," Fulde said.
"I heard the 'crack' and I thought: 'This guy has broken his neck,'" he added.
Fulde, who is also a surgeon, rushed to the aid of the 64-year-old entertainer.
"He had a head injury and he lost consciousness ... (but) scans show that he's OK," Fulde told Seven Network.
Buffett lay on the floor in front of the first row of seating waiting for paramedics and an ambulance to arrive, and he was rushed to hospital half an hour later.
The Margaritaville singer had performed on Sunday and Monday to sold-out crowds at Sydney's Opera House, and the Wednesday concert was tacked on in response to demand.
"We've had an unfortunate incident, but the show's over so if you could move along that would be very, very cool, thank you," the audience was told after the accident.
A message posted on Buffett's website said he was doing well.
"As you probably already know, Jimmy had an accident while performing in Sydney last night and was taken to the hospital," the statement said.
"The doctors say he is doing well ... More info as we get it, and thank you for all of your well-wishes!"

Willie's Country Throwdown coming to Sparta
A major concert tour is coming to the World Shooting and Recreation Complex in Sparta on Saturday, June 11 starring music icon Willie Nelson, and hot country rebel sensation Jamey Johnson, among others.
4 FINI, Inc., producers of the wildly successful Vans Warped Tour, have announced that Willie Nelson’s Country Throwdown Tour 2011 will trek the country beginning in May. The second annual outdoor amphitheater trek will feature a diverse lineup that brings together iconic and emerging artists in the country music scene as well as a full concourse of lifestyle attractions and vendors (to be announced soon) with an affordable ticket price. The shooting complex is the only venue on the tour that is not in an amphitheater setting.
In a phone conversation with Kevin Lyman of the Lyman Group on Monday, he explained the reasoning behind choosing the complex.
“Obviously, I have been working from looking at maps of the venue, and it is a very unique venue for us to play,” Lyman said. “I chose it because of the festival atmosphere that we can provide at that facility. Anyone can book and play in an amphitheatre, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but playing at the shooting complex will give us a diversity that we need.”
Lyman said that he plans to visit the facility before the event to see it first hand if possible.
“I am definitely looking at touring the venue when I can, if my schedule will allow,” Lyman said. “This venue will serve as our St. Louis marketed venue, so it will be a regional event for Sparta to host. Hopefully we can engage some of the artists on the bill in participating in some of the activities that the venue provides, possibly for a charity fundraiser. More things like that will be forthcoming. I am definitely excited to be able to bring this tour to such a unique venue.”
With a six-decade career and 200 plus albums, headliner Willie Nelson is the creative genius behind the historic recordings of Crazy, Red Headed Stranger and Stardust. He has earned every conceivable award as a musician and amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor and activist. In 2009, his new album releases include Naked Willie, Willie and the Wheel and the critically acclaimed American Classic. This past April, Willie Nelson's Country Music, produced by Grammy and Oscar winning T Bone Burnett, was released on Rounder Records and recently received a GRAMMY Nomination for Best Americana Album.
Country rebel artist Jamey Johnson is one of the hottest tickets in the music industry today, much due to the success of his smash single, “In Color.” His current effort is the two-disc collection, “The Guitar Song,” and is available in stores now.
Curt Jeffers of Borders North Productions, is serving as the local contact for the promoter, and will be coordinating local services for the show.
“We were in negotiations of bringing in the IPRA (International Professional Rodeo Association) event in September to the complex, when we were contacted by the Lyman group about hosting the Throwdown Tour,” Jeffers said. “We are looking into bringing an artist in for that show, and that’s how the connection was made for this tour to look at our market.”
The 2011 version of the tour is second year of the tour, and will feature numerous artists with Nelson and Johnson including Randy Houser, Lee Brice, Brantley Gilbert, Craig Campbell & Lukas Nelson & the Promise of the Realm who are among the initial acts confirmed to join Nelson for this nationwide country music tour kicking off in Philadelphia, PA on May 27 and running through July 4, where the tour will end with a big 4th of July bang.
The only tour of its kind in the world of country, Willie Nelson’s Country Throwdown Tour mixes top country music artists with emerging singer-songwriters in a festival environment at an affordable ticket price. Country Throwdown offers a relaxing atmosphere where fans enjoy a constant stream of music on multiple stages all day long - doors open daily at 3:00 p.m. and the shows continue throughout the day until 11 p.m.
The festival show will feature on main stage, as well as two side stages, one that will feature up and coming country artists, sponsored by the famous BlueBird Cafe of Nashville.
Tour founder and co-producer Kevin Lyman says, “Much like the Vans Warped Tour, Willie Nelson’s Country Throwdown brings together a collective group of diverse artists. Not only do we have the opportunity to work with the original and legendary, bad ass Willie Nelson, we’re happy to have the return of today’s bad ass Jamey Johnson. I just feel lucky to be working with all these country artists.”
“We are so excited to have Willie Nelson on board this year and build on the success of last year’s tour,” says Sarah Baer, co-producer for the tour, “We are the only touring country music festival, offering a truly unique experience for country music fans who can’t travel to an event like CMA Music fest…we bring the legends and new faces closer to fan’s homes.”
Ticket prices, including pre-sale and VIP packages will be announced soon.
A portion of the ticket price will benefit Unite the United. Ticket pre-sale begins Friday, February 11 and sale to general public begins February 18 at 10 a.m. For more information, or to purchase tickets visit www.countrythrowdown.com.
“This is a great thing to bring an artist of this magnitude to Sparta,” Sparta Mayor Rob Link said. “The city will, of course, endorse this event and help in any way that is feasible regarding everything from behind-the-scenes operations to crowd and traffic control. We are excited that this event will be taking place right here in Sparta.”
Jeffers said that his role in the event will be working with the production company to coordinate local services, and that official announcements regarding artists, and ticketing will come directly from the producer of the event.
“Our office here at Border North will not be handling ticketing or public concerned issues with the event,” Jeffers said. “We are working the behind-the scenes production and advance details with the Lyman group.”
“This is only the beginning of what Border Productions, Inc. sees as a bright future for these types of events at the shooting complex,” Jeffers added. “Chris Hespen and the entire staff at the complex has been wonderful to work with in getting this, and other events scheduled and worked out. We will be announcing some other events and artists in the near future as well. We are working hard to bring quality entertainment and events to our region, while using a facility that has such a diversity that will allow all types of events to be held at one place.”
In addition to Willie’s Throwdown Tour and rodeo, a barbecue competition that will include 200-250 teams is also being planned for this summer. More details are to be release in the near future.

Hall of Famer Charlie Louvin dies
Charlie Louvin, half of the Louvin Brothers duo whose harmonies inspired fellow country and pop singers for decades, died early Wednesday due to complications from pancreatic cancer. He was 83.
Brett Steele, his manager, said the Country Music Hall of Fame singer died at his home in Wartrace, Tenn.
Louvin was diagnosed with cancer last year and vowed to fight it. He underwent unsuccessful surgery to remove the tumor, but continued to schedule performances and even put out an album. He was one of several stars invited to a welcome home performance of the Grand Ole Opry last year after floods damaged the Opry house.
“I’m not afraid of dying,” Louvin told The Associated Press in 2010, a few days after the diagnosis. “We’re all going to do that. And I’ve had 83 years of almost uninterrupted good health, so I know that’s not by accident. So I’ve been blessed that long, and I could use a couple more.”
The unique sound of Charlie and his brother, Ira, was highly influential in the history of both country and rock and they were inducted into the hall in 2001.
Among their hits were “I Don’t Believe You’ve Met My Baby,” which was No. 1 in 1965, “When I Stop Dreaming,” ‘‘Hoping That You’re Hoping,” and “You’re Running Wild.”
The brothers decided to disband their duo in 1963. Ira died in a Missouri car accident two years later. Charlie later recalled that differences in personality and Ira’s drinking created friction between them, but said they probably would have reunited if Ira had lived.
Charlie Louvin recorded regularly after his brother died, most recently releasing “The Battle Rages On,” a collection of war songs, last winter. His biggest solo hits were “See the Big Man Cry” in 1965 and “I Don’t Love You Anymore” in 1964.
The Louvins influenced harmony acts from the Everly Brothers onward. Emmylou Harris had a hit with their “If I Could Only Win Your Love” in 1975. The Notting Hillbillies recorded the Louvins’ “Weapon of Prayer” in 1990.
Interest in his music resurged as Louvin reached his 80s. In 2007, his first studio album in years, Charlie Louvin, boasting appearances from artists like George Jones and Elvis Costello, was nominated for a Grammy as best traditional folk album.
A year later, his Steps To Heaven was nominated as best Southern, country or bluegrass gospel album. It was one of two albums he put out in 2008; the other was Charlie Louvin Sings Murder Ballads and Disaster Songs.
Louvin said in a 1979 Associated Press interview that he and his brother, reunited, would have become country music superstars.
“If we were together today, we could be the hottest group. That’s where the music is – the Louvin Brothers sound. Everybody is trying the Louvin sound.”
He recalled in a 2007 AP interview that Ira “was extremely hard to get along with when he drank, and he drank too often.” But he said his brother was phenomenally talented as a songwriter, taking ideas proposed by Charlie and turning them into finished songs.
“My job was to listen to people ... and if they said something that caught your ear that would make a good title ... I would write it down and I’d give it to Ira.”
A complete song, Louvin recalled, would “come to him like, God, like he was reading it off of another piece of paper. ... He was nice enough to put my name on the songs also.”
The duo had become members of the Grand Ole Opry in 1955, and Charlie Louvin remained an Opry performer for more than 50 years.
During one stretch of touring in 1955, Elvis Presley was the brothers’ opening act. That second billing didn’t last long, he recalled in 2007.
“It didn’t take a month until they dropped the name ‘Presley’ and nearly the backdrop of the entire stage was ELVIS. He got big quick, very quick, but he was a good kid.”
He laughed when he said he was “kinda like the people in the audience – I didn’t know what he’s doing. ... My brother said he’s the only man he’d ever seen that could wear his clothes on out from the inside with all his shaking.”
Their association with rock ‘n’ roll would get stronger when Gram Parsons introduced The Louvins’ sound to The Byrds and other willing acolytes in the late 1960s, most notably on The Byrds’ groundbreaking country-rock album Sweetheart of the Rodeo.
Charlie Louvin was born Charles Loudermilk in Henager, Ala., in 1927. He and Ira, born in 1924, worked in the fields on the family farm and began singing together as teenagers, developing the harmony that would become their trademark.
“I can remember my brother and I singing together when I was five and he was eight years old,” Louvin told The Associated Press. “He already knew how, and he was teaching me.”
They worked on radio stations in Knoxville, Tenn., and Memphis, Tenn., in the 1940s, and signed their first record deal with Apollo in 1947. Eventually their sound would change music.
“I’m the biggest harmony lover in the world,” Louvin said last year. “If a song’s worth singing you ought to put harmony on it.”

Dust Bowl was recorded in sessions at Black Rock Studios in Santorini, Greece, Ben's Studio in Nashville, TN, The Cave in Malibu, CA and The Village in Los Angeles, CA. It combines the gritty, blues-based tones of Bonamassa's first albums with the fluid, genre-defying sounds he's mastered in the years since and adds a dash of country from Joe's collaborations with the best of Nashville including legends Vince Gill and John Hiatt.
" Dust Bowl ," Shirley explains, "is very firmly rooted in the Blues, but definitely explores the outer reaches of the genre and showcases Joe's amazing virtuosity as he digs deep into his psyche in some lengthy and blistering guitar solos."
"This is the best album we've ever done," adds Bonamassa. "I'm finding more inspiration in storytelling in my 30s, in writing songs that are about something more profound than 'my baby left me.' I like albums that are made with the right intentions and sound organic and a little rough around the edges, like a great band playing live in the room, and that's what we accomplished with Dust Bowl ."
On the John Hiatt/John Porter-penned "Tennessee Plates," Hiatt duets with Bonamassa and Vince Gill lends his signature guitar stylings. Gill also plays on "Sweet Rowena," a song he composed with frequent writing partner Pete Wasner. Arlan Scheirbaum, Beth Hart and Blondie Chaplin play on the Michael Kamen/Tim Curry track "No Love On The Street," and Glenn Hughes sings on the Paul Rodgers-penned "Heartbreaker."
The album opens with Bonamassa originals "Slow Train," an old-style British Blues song, and title track "Dust Bowl," the album's first single. "The title track of the album just describes my life. It really fits my voice, it fits me as a solo artist and just has a really nice feel to it." Other standout originals include "Black Lung Heartache," "The Last Matador of Bayonne," and "The Whale That Swallowed Jonah."
Dust Bowl 's release will be supported by a multi-country tour taking Bonamassa and his ace touring band consisting of Carmine Rojas (bass), Rick Melick (keyboards) and Tal Bergman (drums) to the U.S., Canada, U.K., Europe, China, Japan, Singapore and Australia
2010 was a stellar year for Bonamassa and his best to date. He was named Billboard's #1 Blues Artist based on the charting success of Black Rock, the #2 Billboard Blues Album of 2010, and 2009's Ballad of John Henry , which was #9. He was called "The Blues Rock Titan" by Guitar World and was honored twice in Guitar Player Magazine's 2010 Readers' Choice Awards winning "Best Overall Guitarist" for the first time and "Best Blues Guitarist" for the fourth consecutive year. Black Country Communion's debut self-titled album, released in Sept. 2010, entered the Billboard Top 200 Chart at #53 and received rave reviews. MOJO gave the album four stars and Goldmine said it's "Possibly the best hard rock album of 2010." Black Country Communion is currently in the studio recording their second album, which is tentatively set for a summer 2011 release.

A new track cut from Welcome Home Armageddon, ‘Front Row Seats to The End of the World’, is available for download now at ProjectRodney.com. Please follow this link to download the track: http://beta.projectrodney.com/funeralforafriend.
“On Welcome Home Armageddon, we truly stretched ourselves creatively,” states vocalist Matthew Davies-Kreye. “We were obviously taken aback when Darran [Smith, former guitarist] left the band, but his choice allowed us to explore new territory musically, we just went in any and every direction we wanted to. The changes to our line-up reignited our passion, kicked our asses and made us work harder for this band than we’ve ever done before.”
With former Hondo Maclean and Ghostlines member Richard Boucher installed on bass and Gavin Burrough promoted to his preferred guitar, the band split time between Long Wave Studio and Monnow Valley Studio in Wales and set about crafting their latest effort with producer Romesh Dodangoda (Twin Atlantic, Kids In Glass Houses, Bullet For My Valentine). Romesh Dodangoda also produced 2008’s Memory and Humanity.
“The excitement we have for the future of this band is all over the songs on Welcome Home Armageddon,” adds Davies-Kreye. “The album is about acceptance and coming to terms with what has and is, while refusing to give up on what could be. There are songs that take me places I’ve been trying to go musically all my life. I’m so proud of what we have done.”
FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND has sold considerably more than a million records, and all four of their albums have gone into the UK Top 20. The band has three Gold records, has graced countless magazine covers, and their tours sell out the UK’s larger venues in a matter of minutes. From the U.S. to Russia, Singapore to Australia, Japan and beyond, they have a following more loyal than bands considered their equal.
Over the course of the last decade, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND changed British rock music forever. The band’s journey from hardcore roots and DIY shows in Bridgend to major label records and worldwide tours has built a long and prosperous road that many homegrown bands from across the alternative spectrum have been traveling along ever since. Those that play to crowds of thousands each year on Warped Tour, that adorn countless magazine covers, that grace the stages of arenas and that still have ink drying on their recording contracts all owe a debt of thanks to the quintet’s approach, ambition and aesthetic.
FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND is:
- Matthew Davies-Kreye - lead vocals
- Kris Coombs-Roberts - guitar, vocals
- Gavin Burrough - guitar, vocals
- Ryan Richards - drums, vocals
- Richard Boucher – bass

COUNTRY MUSIC SINGER/SONGWRITER DIERKS BENTLEY HEADS TO ASHEVILLE, NC TO RECORD NEW STUDIO ALBUM
Entire Recording Process To Stream Live Online Beginning Jan. 30
Nashville, Tenn. – Jan. 25, 2011 – Multiple GRAMMY nominee Dierks Bentley will move into a recording studio in Asheville, NC next week to record his sixth Capitol Nashville studio album.
Nashville, Tenn. – Jan. 25, 2011 – Multiple GRAMMY nominee Dierks Bentley will move into a recording studio in Asheville, NC next week to record his sixth Capitol Nashville studio album.
Bentley has spent the last four months writing hundreds of songs for the new project, and he’ll once again team up with award winning producer Jon Randall Stewart and recording engineer Gary Paczosa. Country radio can expect a brand new single from Bentley in the Spring with the album following closely behind. Beginning Sun., Jan. 30, fans will be able to “big brother” the entire recording experience from the studio through a live video feed 24 hours a day on www.dierks.com.
“I’ve been writing and re-writing and tweaking songs for the past four months to get ready for the studio,” says Bentley. “I usually come home from the road and go right into the studio, so I’ve never put this much time into prepping and doing pre-production on songs. I learned from my experience recording Ridge that getting out of Nashville and away from the business side of things can be really inspiring. I’ve got the best musicians in the world, and we’re going to go hunker down for a few weeks and live and breathe this record. I thought it would be cool to let the fans be part of the whole experience, so we’re going to let them watch as it all goes down.”
In addition to adding the studio cam to his website, Bentley is currently planning a complete relaunch of www.dierks.com in March. Fans have already noticed the new dbtv video player on the site and temporarily discounted fan club memberships. For more information and upcoming tour dates, visit www.dierks.com.
