KC & The Sunshine Band’s “Boogie Shoes” selected for preservation by the Library of Congress

2012 Inductees to the National Recording Registry include
Saturday Night Fever, Sounds of Silence, The Dark Side of the Moon and more

MIAMI, Florida (March 25, 2013) – KC & The Sunshine Band’s popular disco classic “Boogie Shoes,” along with the entire Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, is among the 2012 inductees to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress. The Library’s National Recording Preservation Board (NRPB), is tasked with annually selecting 25 recordings that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and are at least 10 years old. The selections for the 2012 registry bring the total number of recordings to 375.The selections named to the registry feature a diverse array of spoken-word and musical recordings—representing nearly every musical category—spanning the years 1918-1980. In addition to Saturday Night Fever, selections include Simon &Garfunkel’s 1966 album, Sounds of Silence; The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd; the 1918 trendsetting After You’ve Gone by Marion Harris; Cheap Thrills, Janis Joplin’s second release with Big Brother and the Holding Company; the radio broadcast featuring Will Rogers’ 1931 folksy insights in support of Herbert Hoover’s unemployment-relief campaign during the Great Depression; and Artie Shaw’s breakthrough hit, "Begin the Beguine."

“I am honored to know that I am part of something as historical as Saturday Night Fever and that a sound that we created back in 1973 has kept the world dancing,” said Harry Wayne Casey.

Saturday Night Fever, the soundtrack to the popular movie starring John Travolta, was released in November 1977 as the disco dance craze was in decline. The popularity of the album, featuring the Bee Gees trademark falsettos over vibrant and infectious beats, was a major factor in reversing that course. It is estimated that more than 20,000 discotheques opened during the next year, attracting some 36 million patrons. Following Saturday Night Fever’s success, disco records became a major component of the music business. Along with the Brothers Gibb, this disco masterpiece features songs by KC & The Sunshine Band, Tavares, Yvonne Elliman, Kool & The Gang and David Shire.

Two new shows for Old Rock House

Chase Rice
Thursday, June 13
Doors 7pm  Show 8pm
$12 Advance $15 Day of Show
All Ages

Carolina grown, good-timin’ tunesmith Chase Rice is every bit the part that his backwards ballcap, party boy persona portrays him to be on stage. Beneath the full-throttle personality and adrenaline infused stage presence though, you’ll find the passion it took to become a college football line-backer, the drive it required to be a NASCAR crew member and the blue-collar values resulting from a close-knit family. When his isn’t on tour opening for acts like Willie Nelson, Brantley Gilbert, Jake Owen or Kip Moore, Chase is penning tomorrow’s biggest hits with a Nashville songwriting circle known for their signature sound of party songs from a tailgate perspective. “Cruise,” a song that Chase co-wrote with Florida Georgia Line has sold well over one million copies and topped the country radio charts at #1 in record-breaking time.

Keyshia Cole Announces Woman to Woman Tour

18 City Tour Kicks off March 28

LOS ANGELES, -- Multiplatinum-selling songstress Keyshia Cole (Geffen) is gearing up for an 18 city headlining tour, she announced today. Set to kick off this March, the Woman to Woman tour—named after her November 2012 album—will serve as a thank you to fans; all five of Cole's albums have reached the Billboard Top 200's top 10. The month-long tour will begin in Westbury, NY on March 28 and wrap in Cole's hometown of Oakland on April 21.
The tour announcement continues an exciting run for the R&B diva. First, the Grammy-nominated artist bared her soul on Woman to Woman; an effort which earned her the #2 position on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. The record was host to singles "Enough of No Love" and "Trust and Believe"; the first, a passionately belted up tempo track, with the latter serving as a confessional, yet catchy tale of broken trust.
In addition to the release of her fifth studio album, Cole also starred alongside husband Daniel Gibson in BET's hit reality series "Keyshia & Daniel: Family First." She's slated to hit the Essence Festival stage for the fourth time this July.
Concert goers will also be treated to the sultry sounds of fellow crooner and special guest, Chrisette Michele .

Billy Joe Shaver has never been a household name, but his songs became country standards during the '70s and his reputation among musicians and critics has remained legendary throughout the ensuing decades. Shaver is truly one of the most respected living figures in American music. His songs have been cut by Elvis, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and many others. Bob Dylan, who rarely covers other writers, often plays Billy Joe‘s “Old Five And Dimers Like Me” in concert and Johnny Cash called him “my favorite songwriter.” The Washington Post noted, “when the country outlaws were collecting their holy writings, Billy Joe Shaver was carving out Exodus.”

You probably think you know everything there is to know about Eleanor Friedberger. “She’s that girl from The Fiery Furnaces,” you’re thinking. “She is a great singer, I think she plays guitar… does she play guitar?” you’re asking. “She has a really great haircut,” you’re musing. And yes, you’d be right about all of these things. But what you likely don’t know is that Eleanor Friedberger is not just the enigmatic mouthpiece of one of music’s most interesting, dynamic and constantly exciting bands. In fact, Eleanor Friedberger is an exceptional songwriter herself, playing a variety of instruments and crafting the very sorts of choruses that made you fall in love with The Fiery Furnaces in the first place. We’re pretty confident that when you know all this about Eleanor Friedberger, you will agree wholeheartedly that she continues to be one of the best damn songwriters we’ve got, never ceasing in her explorations of sound and constantly setting herself apart from her musical peers.
