Marcy Playground To Release 'Lunch, Recess & Detention,' Featuring New And Previously Unreleased Recordings And B-Sides
Marcy Playground to Tour the U.S. with Everclear, Sugar Ray, Lit, and Gin Blossoms
"Lunch, Recess, and Detention... the three things I was never late for. I liked all three equally." - John Wozniak, Marcy Playground
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., June 2012--Marcy Playground has partnered with EMI Music for the release of Lunch, Recess & Detention,
a collection of new recordings (Lunch), previously unreleased gems
(Recess), and B-sides (Detention) spanning the band's entire six-album
career. To be released digitally on June 26 and on CD on July 17, Lunch, Recess & Detention
includes newly-recorded versions of some of the band's own songs,
including "Sex and Candy," as well as new Marcy Playground styled
covers, including "The Needle and the Damage Done," "Hallelujah," and
"Whiter Shade of Pale." The band has written liner notes and track
annotations for the new release.

"The call for an album of Marcy extras, b-sides, and rarities began with MP fans on the www.MarcyPlayground.com bulletin boards in and around 2004-2005, but the idea took a back seat to our other album projects, our tours, and all of the other things in our lives... until now, " said Marcy Playground's John Wozniak.
Originally recorded as a quirky folk-rock track during the band's sessions for Marcy Playground 3 ("MP3"), a song titled "Mr. Fisher" took on a reggae-rock flavor during an impromptu jam session in the studio. While compiling tracks for Lunch, Recess & Detention, the band came across this version and completed it for inclusion on the new collection.
Marcy Playground exploded onto the scene in 1997 with "Sex and Candy," which spent fifteen consecutive weeks at number one on Billboard's Modern Rock tracks chart. Their self-titled debut album sold an astonishing 1.7 million copies. "Sex and Candy" remains an iconic song that defines the late '90s.
The band's two subsequent releases, Shapeshifter (1999) and Marcy Playground 3 ("MP3") (2004), have gone on to enjoy something of 'cult' status among the band's many loyal fans, and during this time, the band's music has been featured in such films as 'Cruel Intentions,' 'Antitrust,' 'Simply Irresistible,' 'Hurricane Streets,' 'Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back,' and 'Zack & Mira Make A Porno.' In 2009, the band returned with a new critically acclaimed studio album Leaving Wonderland…In a Fit of Rage and a fan-remixed version of the album from Indaba Music titled Indaba Remixes From Wonderland.
Marcy Playground has continued to tour consistently. This summer, the band is in the line-up for this summer's highly anticipated 'Summerland Tour 2012,' a 31-date trek across the U.S. from late June through the middle of August with Everclear, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms, and Lit, including stops in Los Angeles (June 29), Phoenix (July 3), Atlanta (July 13), New York (July 18), Boston (July 28), and Detroit (August 2).
