Madonna Announces Completion Of 10 Schools In Malawi In Partnership With buildOn

More Than 4,800 Children To Be Enrolled Next Year

NEW YORK,  -- As part of Madonna's ongoing commitment to support orphans and vulnerable children in poverty stricken Malawi, ten primary schools have been completed that will serve to educate 4,871 children. These schools are located in rural villages across Malawi and are a result of the partnership between Madonna, her charity Raising Malawi and the global nonprofit buildOn.  The ten schools, which were scheduled to be built over 18 months, have been completed six months ahead of schedule.  Six of the schools are already in use and all ten will be up and running in January 2013 for the first day of school in the New Year.
The project was originally announced early this year as a major initiative of Raising Malawi, which has already provided millions of dollars in support of orphanages, a network of orphan care service providers, health clinics, a scholarship program for girls, and the schools with buildOn.
The location for each school was chosen from a list of communities in need of new infrastructure. The Ministry of Education Office in the Kasungu District was an important partner, providing both the teachers and curriculum after each school was completed.
"I am overjoyed that my commitment along with buildOn's to help educate the children of Malawi has come to fruition.  In a country where girls have little opportunity for education, it's additionally inspiring to know that more than half the students attending will be young girls.  The fact that more than 4,800 children in Malawi will get to go to school next year is a tremendous step forward for their individual growth and the growth of Malawi," commented Madonna.
Consistently ranked among the world's 20 least developed countries on the UN's Human Development Index, Malawi has long been challenged by economic stagnation and a lack of access to education.  With support from Madonna and Raising Malawi, buildOn was able double the reach of its school construction program within a year.
"Madonna's commitment to the children of Malawi is inspiring," said Jim Ziolkowski, founder and CEO of buildOn.  "Through Raising Malawi's support we were able to build 10 schools that will educate literally generations of children who need it the most."

Lady Gaga's Born Brave Bus Tour & National Council Promote Youth Mental Health

WASHINGTON, Dec. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Council for Behavioral Health (National Council) has partnered with Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation to promote mental health awareness and resilience among young people. National Council member organizations provide onsite 'bravery tips' and mental health resources as part of a 27-city Born Brave Bus Tour hosted by the foundation in conjunction with Lady Gaga's concert tour.
On the afternoon of each concert, "little monsters," as devoted Gaga fans call themselves, will come together to share stories of bravery and empowerment. The National Council has partnered with the National Association of School Psychologists to offer onsite interactive activities and resources to help these young people understand that mental health problems are common and treatable and that seeking help for themselves or their friends is an act of bravery.
Mental health professionals staffing the tour events will reinforce the message that young people can play an active role in caring for their own mental health and that of their friends and classmates. Key messages of the Born Brave Bus Tour are:
  • Be brave: Know your strengths
  • Act brave: Share your strengths
  • Stay brave: Build your strengths
Youth in need of intervention will be connected to local resources, with information also online at www.braverytips.org.
"The National Council designated 2013 as 'the Year of  Youth,'" said Linda Rosenberg, President and CEO of the National Council. "At a time like this, our members have renewed their commitment to working with their communities to ensure that young people have a brighter future. We are honored to work with Lady Gaga and the Born This Way Foundation to build momentum in communities that will sustain the message of bravery."
Among the National Council's offerings is Youth Mental Health First Aid (www.MentalHealthFirstAid.org), a training that uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis, select interventions, and provide initial help. The course teaches participants the risk factors and warning signs of problems that can occur during adolescents, including eating disorders, anxiety, depression, AD/HD, and substance use disorders. Mental Health First Aid has trained 80,000+ people across the US.
"Now more than ever, our kids need access to support within their communities, including mental health services," said Cynthia Germanotta, Born This Way Foundation President and Co-Founder and Lady Gaga's mother. "By connecting youth to these local resources, we hope to plant the seeds that will help them deal with today's challenges and inspire them to continue exercising their strength and bravery well after the Born Brave Bus leaves town. We are incredibly grateful to our partners for helping to make the Born Brave Bus Tour a reality. To have this many reputable national organizations come together at a local level is revolutionary."
The National Council for Behavioral Health (National Council) is the unifying voice of America's behavioral health organizations. Together with our 2,000 member organizations, we serve our nation's most vulnerable citizens -- more than 8 million adults and children with mental illnesses and addiction disorders. We are committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality care that affords every opportunity for recovery and inclusion in all aspects of community life. The National Council coordinates the Mental Health First Aid program across the USA. (www.TheNationalCouncil.org)
The Born This Way Foundation was created by Lady Gaga and her mother Cynthia Germanotta to foster a more accepting society, where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated. The Foundation is dedicated to creating a safe community that helps connect young people with the skills and opportunities they need to build a kinder, braver world. Dailey & Vincent
When Bluegrass takes a walk on the Gospel side . . .

The Gospel Side of Dailey & Vincent
Nominated for Best Bluegrass Album
at the 55th GRAMMY® Awards

“The duo of Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent has cracked open the formalism of religious string-band music by reaching out to mainstream country and even some humor to create an irresistible album. Of course, it helps that their duet singing is prettier than just about anyone’s.”
-The Washington Post

“ . . . a Spirit-filled tour de force of hair-raising vocal harmony that crosses Bill Monroe with Bill Gaither and counts off various stripes of country-gospel like so many flowers on the wall, with Southern gospel, old-timey spirituals and mountain-music styles sharing a pew with tunes from Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and Buck Owens.”
-Country Weekly

“ . . . built around the exquisite harmonies that Jamie and Darrin seem to bring to everything they sing.”
-Bluegrass Today

“ . . . the music lacks nothing in the way of excellent performance and good spirit.”
-Bluegrass Unlimited

“ . . . their strength is the kind of close harmony that made the Louvins and McReynolds household names in country music . . .”
-Country Standard Time

  • The Gospel Side of Dailey & Vincent debuted in January 2012 at #1 on Billboard magazine’s Top Bluegrass Albums Chart and at #3 on the Top Contemporary Christian Chart.  Click here to listen to samples of each of the 12 tracks.
  • This is the second GRAMMY® nomination for Dailey & Vincent. The first was in 2011 for the song “Elizabeth” from Dailey & Vincent Sing the Statler Brothers, which was nominated for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
  • Both nominated projects were released on Rounder Records and are available exclusively through Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®.

BO BICE IS BACK – AND HEADED TO BROADWAY!

Bice to make Broadway debut in ‘Pump Boys & Dinettes’ March 2013

Visit www.bobice.comNashville, Tenn. (December 18, 2012) – Bo Bice, Sugar Money Records artist, signs with newly-formed Altar Agency and announces the upcoming lead role in the revival of the 1980’s Broadway musical ‘Pump Boys and Dinettes’. The production will be held at the Circle in the Square Theater with preview performances to commence March 19, 2013 with an official open April 8th.

The original production opened off-Broadway in 1981 and moved to Broadway in February 1982, completing 573 performances over 16 months.  The musical is a tribute to rural American life centered around a roadside restaurant and filling station on Highway 57 in North Carolina.  Tony winner John Doyle (for “Sweeny Todd”, Director) is also set to direct the ‘Pump Boys’ revival, where the cast ensemble doubles as the show’s band.  It received both Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations for Best Musical.

Bice, a runner-up finalist to Carrie Underwood on American Idol’s fourth season, has released three studio albums. He has also recorded and performed with Carlos Santana, Ritchie Sambora, Willie Nelson, Chad Kroeger and Lynyrd Skynyrd, amongst others, and is now expanding his already eclectic repertoire to include Broadway.

“Altar Agency is excited to welcome Bo Bice to their roster,” says General Manager D. Scott Miller.  “We are truly excited with all that is to come in 2013”.
Two new shows announced for Old Rock House

Caveman

Doors 7pm
Show 8pm $10 Advance $12 Day of Show All Ages

Caveman was born in New York in January of 2010, when a group of friends decided it was time to put aside their boyhood ways and start being men. The sound they crafted in that large, dark room is equal parts chamber pop, dreamscape, and horror film score. At a Caveman show you will hear four-part harmonies, spaced-out guitars, synths, and, yes, much drumming. This has been a gallant year for the band, as since their first birthday they have shared the stage with bands such as Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, White Rabbits, Here We Go Magic, Cursive, Amazing Baby, and Blue Oyster Cult.

After contributing one song to the first Twilight soundtrack in 2008, his popularity with audiences in the U.S. and Europe developed exponentially, which helped to vindicate his commitment to his craft. For 2012, Foster is about to release a new EP The Last House.

IT’S A WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR FOR KELLIE PICKLER

Rolling Stone, Washington Post, Rhapsody, AOL’s The Boot and More Name Pickler’s 100 Proof “Best Of 2012”

2013 Promises New Music on Black River Entertainment

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Spearheaded by the release of her critically-acclaimed album 100 Proof in early January and rounded out with the signing of a new record deal with Black River Entertainment in October, the year 2012 has meant tons of excitement and career momentum for country music songstress Kellie Pickler.  Now, as the nation’s top music critics reflect on what a year it’s been with their “Best Of 2012” album nods, Pickler celebrates the merriment of the season with coveted placement at the top of Rolling Stone’s “Best Country Albums of 2012” list, No. 7 on Washington Post’s “Best Music of 2012” list, No. 2 on Rhapsody’s “Top 30 Country Albums for 2012,” and No. 6 on AOL’s The Boot “Best Country Albums of 2012.” Fans can expect 2013 to also be an exciting year for Pickler as she gears up to release a new single from her forthcoming new album.

Alongside their top rating, Rolling Stone wrote, “100 Proof may be the best traditionalist album of the year. Pickler wraps her big lustrous voice around old-fashioned honky tonk, rollicking road stories and big ballads, all produced with a perfect balance of throwback twang and contemporary sheen.” Critic Chris Richards from the Washington Post added, “Pickler uses that big voice to sing big songs about no-good men, absentee parents, the ghost of Tammy Wynette and her own backbone, which suddenly sounds as if it were made of aerospace-grade titanium.” Lastly, AOL’s The Boot says, “Kellie included what are perhaps the most personal songs of her career, ‘Mother’s Day,’ and ‘The Letter (To Daddy)’, on the project, wearing her heart on her musical sleeve.”

Before the music critics’ end-of-year verdicts were revealed, CMT’s Editorial Director Chet Flippo agreed, “100 Proof is probably the best pure country album in recent years. There are raw and troubling songs, painful personal truths and family sorrows laid bare. But there’s also an indomitable human will to survive and even rejoice in that survival.”

100 Proof is available in stores and online, everywhere music is sold.

To stay updated on additional accolades and find out when you can catch Kellie out on tour, stay tuned to KelliePickler.com.

8th ANNUAL ST. LOUIS BLUES FESTIVAL BRINGS RHYTHM AND SOUL TO CHAIFETZ ARENA ON FEBRUARY 23

TICKETS GO ON-SALE ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 17 AT 10AM AT METROTIX.COM

(St. Louis – December 13, 2012) St. Louis-native Shirley Brown and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Bobby Womack and Bobby “Blue” Bland headline the 8th Annual St. Louis Blues Festival at Chaifetz Arena at Saint Louis University on Saturday, February 23 at 7 p.m.  Mel Waiters, Charles Wilson, TK Soul and Denise LaSalle are also scheduled to perform.

Tickets are $47.50 and $57.50 and go on-sale on Monday, December 17 at 10 a.m. at MetroTix.com, charge by phone at 314-534-1111 and the Chaifetz Arena Box Office.

Cutting her teeth in church at the age of ten, Shirley Brown earned a reputation in the gospel circles around St. Louis for delivering powerful solos. Brown parlayed that success to a recording career in 1974 where her debut single “Woman to Woman” peaked at the top spot on the Billboard R&B charts and yielded a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year.

Singer-songwriter and musician Bobby Womack began his career as the lead singer of The Valentinos and as Sam Cooke’s backing guitarist in the early 1960s. With hits such as “Lookin’ For a Love,” “That’s The Way I Feel About Cha” and “Woman’s Gotta Have It,” Womack’s career has spanned more than 50 years and has reached across multiple genres including rock and roll, gospel, R&B, doo-wop and more. Womack was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

With the title of one of the most renowned patriarchs of modern soul, Bobby “Blue” Bland is known for his unique grainy voice and snorts, which later came to be known as the “chicken-bone sound.” Since 1957, Bland has had over 30 R&B Top 20 singles including the well-known hits “I Pity the Fool” and “Don’t Cry No More.”  He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and earned the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Grammy in 1997.

R&B singer Mel Waiters first began his performing career at local teen clubs in San Antonio. After a stint as a radio disc jockey, Waiters was awarded a government contract to entertain at military bases across the country and later released the albums Suki-Suki Man and Women in Need.

Chicago-native Charles Wilson has become a fixture on the Southern Soul circuit after beginning to perform at age seven. After establishing himself as a blues player, he found his niche in Southern Soul and cut his first album “Blues In The Key Of C” in 1991.

TK Soul, the “Undisputed Bad Boy of Southern Soul” produced his first album, “One Woman Man,” in 2002 and has seen an increase in popularity ever since. His newest album, “Ghetto Superstar” was released in October 2012.

Denise LaSalle, a blues and R&B/soul singer, began singing in local churches in her native Mississippi before moving to Chicago. Her R&B songs are also influenced by country and blues music. LaSalle was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2011.

Global Spectrum (global-spectrum.com) manages Chaifetz Arena as well as more than 100 other public assembly facilities around the world. Nearly 20-million people attended more than 11,000 events in Global Spectrum venues last year. TIM MCGRAW REVEALS MORE DETAILS ABOUT HIS UPCOMING ALBUM RELEASE TWO LANES OF FREEDOM – IN STORES FEB 5, 2013

Debut Big Machine Records Disc To Include Standard & An Accelerated Deluxe Version At Most Retail Accounts

Nashville, TN- -- Country music icon Tim McGraw is revealing more details about his highly anticipated release TWO LANES OF FREEDOM.  His first album for Big Machine Records will be released on Feb. 5, 2013 and is set to prove once again that on stage and on record, he remains dedicated to delivering music that is innovative, heartfelt and authentic.

"I feel like I've progressed in my work, and I've always strived to get better," says McGraw. "On my last album, I was discovering some new sounds and new things that I wanted to do, scratching the surface of the direction I wanted to head. This album was a way to reach a little further back, to all that I'd done throughout my career, and bring both sides together—it's a combination of that discovery, along with some rediscovery."

On TWO LANES OF FREEDOM, the sense of nostalgia comes through on the hard-driving current single "One of Those Nights."  The reverie of that song, though, is countered by the humor and joy of "Southern Girl" or the feel-good hangover of "Mexicoma."  McGraw maintains that it was the album's title track that really established the tone for the entire project.

"When we cut 'Two Lanes of Freedom,' there was such a freshness to it," he says. "The track has this sort of Gaelic drive to it and really sets a palette for the whole record because it's so visual—it has that summery, hazy image and I think that made the whole record open up for me."

McGraw reaches some especially emotional depth in his performances on such songs as "Number 37405," the lament of a singer-turned-convict.  Most powerful of all might be "Book of John," a wistful account of a family going through the journal left behind by its late patriarch. The album closes with "Highway Don't Care," a breezy yet complex track that features Taylor Swift (the song is featured as number 13 on the album as a nod to her) and Keith Urban.

Florida Georgia Line Scores 2012's Highest Selling Country Debut Album with HERE'S TO THE GOOD TIMES

December 12, 2012
Florida Georgia Line has been heating up the music scene – and just this week – earned the highest debut album sales of 2012 for a new Country artist with nearly 63,000 copies of HERE’S TO THE GOOD TIMES. The debut project on Republic Nashville entered the sales charts at #3 on the Billboard Country Albums and #10 on the Billboard Top 200.
Last night, FGL made their national television performance debut on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Watch them perform their Platinum-certified debut single, “Cruise,” via http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/video/wednesday-december-12-2012/1426796/ (approx. 37:30 mark). This morning (12/13), they stopped by FOX & Friends to play the breakout smash, which has spent two consecutive weeks at #1 on Country radio charts and is the #1 best-selling single for Country this week.
Brian Kelley (Ormond Beach, Florida) and Tyler Hubbard (Monroe, Georgia) worked with producer Joey Moi (Jake Owen, Nickelback) on their 11-track project, which showcases FGL’s eclectic mix of influences ranging from country to hip-hop.
After selling out every date on the CMT Tour with headliner Jake Owen over the last few months, FGL will hit the road again in January 2013 with Luke Bryan’s “Dirt Road Diaries Tour." Their energetic stage presence and infectious lyrics have earned the attention of fans and Superstars – Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Jennifer Nettle’s (Sugarland) and Dierks Bentley – alike.

The 34-city tour, sponsored by social media company Musio and G-Pen, will crisscross the entire United States beginning January 30 in Orlando, FL and concluding with a four-day stop in Austin, Texas for SXSW. Major city tour stops include New York, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The tour is coming off a wildly successful year for G-Eazy in 2012 as an independent artist. After completing the over forty dates on the Vans Warped Tour as a featured performer, G followed up with two nationwide tours in the summer and fall; one co-headline with Hoodie Allen on the “Excellent Adventure Tour” and G’s first ever headline tour, the “Plastic Dreams” tour, which sold out in major markets across the country.  The relentless touring led into the release of G-Eazy’s full-length album Must Be Nice on September 26th, which Buzz Media’s Under The Gun Review called “well-written, gorgeously produced.” The 10-track album, featured all original production by G-Eazy and was made available for free via Karmaloop’s private buyer site PLNDR.com as well as for purchase with select digital retailers.
