NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (Sept. 8, 2015) – Jewel’s new album Picking Up the Pieces is receiving its worldwide debut Friday, but the album is available now for preview on Pandora, offering fans a first look at the album critics are calling “remarkably raw” and “bracingly honest” (Entertainment Weekly) ahead of its Sept. 11 release.
 
The album is a personal return to her roots as a folk- and country-influenced singer-songwriter. The New York Times’ Best Selling author and poet also will be sharing her story through her new Blue Rider Press memoir, Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half the Story, due Sept. 15. The raw look at her struggles, even at the peak of her career, led Loretta Lynn to write, “Jewel’s Life in ‘Never Broken’ reminded me so much of my own. But if we hadn’t of come from hardship and nothing, we wouldn’t have made something out of ourselves.”

Jewel will celebrate the releases with a number of television appearances and book signings in the coming weeks. She’ll visit FOX News’ Fox & Friends on Sept. 14, ABC’s The View on Sept. 15, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live on Oct. 1 and Steve Harvey on Oct. 22. Additionally, Jewel will make appearances on The Howard Stern Show on Sept. 21 and NPR’s My Big Break, On Point with Tom Ashbrook, and Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me throughout September and October. Book signings begin Sept. 14 in New York and will include Nashville, Boston, Denver, Phoenix and Los Angeles. She’s also appearing at this year’s AmericanaFest during the Americana Music Festival and Conference on Sept. 15 in Nashville.

Jewel’s 1995 release Pieces of You, recorded by Ben Keith at Neil Young’s home studio, should be considered a cornerstone of the current Americana and folk movements. The raw look at life on the edge buoyed by the hit “Who Will Save Your Soul” sold more than 12 million copies, but as Jewel chronicles in “Never Broken,” the time was far from happy. Picking Up the Pieces also covers difficult territory, and critics are responding.

“When the time came to make a new album, she wanted to get back to the vibe she captured on her debut and close the loop on Pieces of You with a bookend called Picking Up The Pieces.” Entertainment Weekly writes. “The result is a remarkably raw, bracingly honest set of folk and Americana tunes that tap into both the remarkable spirit in her voice and her incredible lyrical honesty.”

Rhapsody’s review notes “Jewel proves she is the sum of her parts: Picking Up the Pieces lightly treads in the country terrain she fully explored on her last two albums, while returning to the folk-pop poetry of her Pieces of You debut...”

Picking Up the Pieces is Jewel’s first new adult-oriented album of studio material in five years. Keith has passed away, so Jewel took over production of the album herself, hiring a band comprised mostly of Young collaborators. The album comes after a difficult period that included her divorce and the birth of her first child. Picking Up the Pieces captures some of these moments on “Love Used to Be” and “Mercy,” and also gathers longtime unrecorded live favorites like “Carnivore” and “Boy Needs a Bike.” The album includes “My Father’s Daughter,” a stunning autobiographical collaboration with Dolly Parton.

Kelly Lang Records "Last Date" with Late Show's Paul Shaffer     NASHVILLE, Tenn. – When Kelly Lang's long-time friend Paul Shaffer visited Nashville for vacation recently, they did what most musicians do. They made music, recording a track for her upcoming album in their first studio session together. Lang's performance with the former musical director of Late Show With David Letterman is one of several star-studded cuts from her upcoming album, which is set for release later this year. The singer-songwriter was excited to get to record with Shaffer, especially considering the musical magic that they created in their first performance together. “I've known Paul forever, but we'd never had the chance to perform together,” said Lang. “He came down on vacation to see me, check out Nashville, and do a show. After that, we decided, 'Why not record this for the record'?” Shaffer had originally come to town to visit Lang and to play a July 4th show as Lang's special guest. Lang is a regular performer in the annual Remembering Conway Twitty show at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. This year, she performed “Goodbye Darling,” a song she wrote about Twitty. For her second song, she chose “Last Date,” a song Twitty fans know for the moving lyrics he wrote to the Floyd Cramer tune.   It was the magic of "Last Date" Shaffer and Lang decided to capture when they made it into the studio. "It's just such a magical song, and Paul brings so much to it, so much feeling and passion," Lang said. "You can hear it all on the record when it comes out. And there's a lot of surprises, too." Lang is playing it close to the vest about the songs she’s including on the album. And, while she won't reveal the full song list or popular names that might find their way into the credits, she does say people will be surprised and pleased with the collection, which she likens to her last album of classic songs, Shades of K, which drew critical praise from Billboard. "I've been so blessed in my life to have people like Paul, so many incredibly gifted, talented musicians," she said. "I'm just as blessed to have so many great songs to include on this record." Growing up in the music business, Lang’s father was Twitty’s longtime tour manager. She turned first to performing, with her first Billboard single “Lady, Lady” at the age of 15. Over the years, she’s toured extensively, and she is a talented and sought-after songwriter, as well. She is set to appear July 18 at the Grand Ole Opry with husband TG Sheppard, with whom she frequently performs duets in live shows.  T. GRAHAM BROWN RETURNS WITH  

FOREVER CHANGED
SET MARKS HIS FIRST STUDIO ALBUM IN NINE YEARS

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – It’s been almost a decade since T. Graham Brown has released a new studio album, but that drought comes to an end today with the release of Forever Changed. The disc is released by Mansion Entertainment and distributed by Sony RED Distribution and Provident. The album is also available through Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. Brown co-produced the disc with Mark L. Carman.

In addition to Brown’s trademark blues styling, Forever Changed features no less than twelve of Brown’s contemporaries and fellow artists lending their talents to the album. Among the guest list includes Vince Gill, Leon Russell, Steve Cropper, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Jimmy Fortune. The disc has already made a little bit of history for the Georgia native by garnering him his first ever Grammy nomination – in the category of Best Gospel Roots Album. Brown and his wife Sheila will be traveling to Los Angeles for the February 8 Grammy festivities.

Brown – whose last studio disc was 2006’s The Present – is very excited for his fans to hear the new music. “It’s a neat record. I think it’s probably the best one I’ve ever made, and I’ve got a lot of friends singing on it. I picked out a batch of songs I liked, and it turned out exactly like I wanted it to. Then, it gets nominated for a Grammy, and I’ve never been nominated for one before, so I’m loving every minute of it.” The album’s first single, “He’ll Take Care Of You,” the collaboration with Vince Gill, is currently making an impact at both Country radio and Southern Gospel radio.

Brown was born in Georgia, and played in local bands throughout the 1970s, making the move to Nashville in the early 1980s. His talent came to the attention of Capitol Records executive Jim Fogelsong, who signed him to the label. His first single, “Drowning In Memories,” immediately connected with fans, landing in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart, but the best was yet to come. His sophomore release, “I Tell It Like It Used To Be,” hit the Top-10, kicking off a series of hits that included “Hell and High Water,” “Darlene,” “Come As You Were,” and “Don’t Go Out,” a 1990 hit single that paired him with Tanya Tucker. In 1998, Brown charted with the personal “Wine Into Water,” a song that detailed his long and painful struggle with alcohol addiction. Brown re-cut the song on Forever Changed with Jimmy Fortune.

2015 marks three decades since Brown first hit the charts, and the singer will celebrate by taking his unique blend of Country and Blues on the road.

Black Sabbath to record new album, embark on final tour in 2015, according to Osbourne

 

Black Sabbath apparently have at least one more studio album — and one more tour — left in the tank.
The trio (no word on if they will become a quartet again) will start working on a new studio album in 2015; that album will be followed by a final tour.
"The whole Sabbath experience this time around was great," Ozzy Osbourne told Metal Hammer. "We all made friends, we didn't fuck around, we all knew that we had a job to do, and we did it. It was a lot of fun. So we're going to do one more album and a final tour.
"Once the dust settled after the last tour, we started discussing the idea, because we were getting asked about it all the time. I said to [wife/manager] Sharon, 'What's going on? Because if there's no more Sabbath, I want to get on with my own thing again,' and she came back and said, 'Let me look into it.'
"Three weeks later, I asked her about it again, and she said, 'Oh, I still have to talk to so and so...' and I said 'Sharon, I ain't fucking 21 anymore. If we're going to do it, I want to do it before I'm 70!' Time isn't on our side! So she made the call and came back and said, 'Yeah, the record company wants another album.' I believe [producer] Rick Rubin is going to do it with us again."
No new material has yet been written for the album, which will be the band's 14th, but Osbourne says sessions will begin early next year.
"It'll be sooner rather than later," he added. "Obviously a lot of it is coming down to Tony [Iommi]'s health, he's obviously got his cancer treatment, but we'll get onto it next year. I don't know if we'll be writing in England or L.A., but I'll fly to the fucking moon for it if I have to!"
Butler recently said the trio have a head start on a new record.
"We've still got four tracks left over from [13]. So maybe we'll fill in the other four or five tracks and put out another album — if it's right. We wouldn't do it just for the sake of it, or the money or whatever. But yeah, maybe."
13, the first Black Sabbath album since 1978 to feature Osbourne, Iommi and Butler, reached No. 1 in the U.S., the U.K. and several other countries. Drummer Bill Ward was on board for the reunion when it was announced in November 2011, but he backed out soon after due to contractual issues. We await word on whether or not Ward will be part of the festivities in 2015.

SANCTUARY finishes new album, 'The Year The Sun Died'; announces street date

Front-man Warrel Dane comments: "Now that hell has officially frozen over and the pigs have flown, I can proudly say 'The Year The Sun Died' is finished. SANCTUARY was formed in Seattle in 1985 and released two studio albums on Epic Records, Refuge Denied in 1987 and Into the Mirror Black in 1989. "These songs mean everything to me," said frontman Alex Ebert who produced the album. "It's the rawest, most liberated, most rambunctious stuff we've done."

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros formed in 2007 after singer Alex Ebert met fellow singer Jade Castrinos outside of a cafe in downtown Los Angeles. In 2009 the 10-member troupe released their debut album Up From Below which featured the hit "Home" as well as fan favorite's "40 Day Dream" and "Janglin". The band has spent the past few years touring the world while winning over audiences at festivals like Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Leeds, Austin City Limits and more. Their follow up album, Here, was released in May 2012 and featured the tracks "Man On Fire" and "That's What's Up."  The album debuted at #1 on the Independent Music Chart and #5 on Billboard Top 200 Chart the week after it's release. Relix Magazine hailed it as "an album full of undeniable folk-rock hooks, gospel overtones, infectious lyrics, orchestral swells and a whole lot of love." Entertainment Weekly declared, "...they've got so much heart, they can crush hipster irony with one squeeze of the accordion." The album was listed at number seven on Rolling Stone's "Best Albums of 2012" List.
