"Negrito puts himself in the middle of the fray with Please Don't Be Dead ...and offers his songs for the soundtrack of the lives of those who won't give up and are willing to carry on."
- Associated Press
Last year, he won a Grammy for the Best Contemporary Blues Album for 2016's Last Days of Oakland. The new album (Please Don't Be Dead), with its intense fervor, should make that two years in a row.
- Bob Boilen, NPR

It is only mid-June, but I'm calling it: This is my Album Of The Year.
- Tom O'Connor, Rock and Blues Muse
"Echoes of Zeppelin, The Black Keys, and Jack White are as prevalent as those of Leadbelly or Son House. And, like the jazz artists mentioned, urban aspects of hip-hop, rap, and spoken word filter through as does R&B"
- Glide Magazine

GRAMMY® Award-wining artist Fantastic Negrito releases his new album PLEASE DON'T BE DEAD today via Cooking Vinyl and Blackball Universe. Along with the release, Negrito unveils the Freddy Macdonald directed music video "The Duffler" from the album's latest single. PLEASE DON'T BE DEAD is available today at all DSPs.

There is desperation and urgency in Fantastic Negrito's new album PLEASE DON'T BE DEAD. For anyone who ever felt like it was over yet hoped it wasn't, this is your music.

"I wrote this album because I fear for the life of my black son," said Negrito. "I fear for the lives of my daughters. I am uncertain about what kind of future they will face. Will someone shoot up their school? Will they become addicted to prescription pills? Will they wind up on the street, sleeping under freeways and overpasses? Will the police murder my son? I came up with the name Please Don't Be Dead because I felt like we'd lost of our way as a society - and I know what happens when you chase the wrong things. It's the story of my life."

Fantastic Negrito has spent much of the past two years on the road, including sold out headline shows, stage-stealing festival performances, and a series of North American and European tours supporting his great supporter and friend, the late Chris Cornell as well as Cornell's legendary supergroup Temple of the Dog. He also opened for Sturgill Simpson and many others. A wide range of international live dates are available on his website, including major market headline shows and such festivals as Pasadena, CA's Arroyo Seco Weekend, Newport Folk Festival and AFROPUNK FEST, as well as the album release event at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco. The Supremes Keep Us Hangin' On By Honoring 50-Plus Years Of The Supremes Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland

2-CD Expanded Edition Celebrates Anniversary of Supremes' Historic Album Interpreting Songs from One of Motown's Most Storied Songwriting Teams

LOS ANGELES, June 15, 2018 -- On June 29, in anticipation of the upcoming 60th anniversary of Motown — a.k.a. Hitsville U.S.A. — and inspired by the album's own recent 51st anniversary, Motown/UMe is releasing a 51-track, 2-CD Expanded Edition of The Supremes' tenth studio effort, the chart-topping The Supremes Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland. The collection magnifies the scope of a seminal album that made history, including 27 tracks that are heard here for the first time via a number of updated mixes and alternate versions, as well as electrifying live performances captured at the Copacabana nightclub in New York City in May 1967, the last recorded performance of the original trio: Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard.
The Supremes Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland, originally released in January 1967, further cemented the group's chart prowess and vocal harmonizing skills. Inspired by the production team who along with the group had come to define the "Motown Sound" – producers Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier and lyricist Edward Holland Jr. – spawned a pair of universally loved No. 1 singles, the forever-pleading "You Keep Me Hangin' On" and the heartbreakingly dramatic "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone." The LP also went to No. 1 on the Billboard R&B Albums Chart, their fourth album to do so up to that point, while peaking at no. 6 Pop.
Formed in Detroit as The Primettes in 1959, The Supremes were Motown's most successful act of the 1960s, scoring 12 No. 1 singles. They also continue to reign as America's most successful vocal group to date. Their influence not only carries on in contemporary R&B, soul and pop, they also helped pave the way for mainstream success by African-American artists across all genres.
The expanded The Supremes Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland includes the original mono album on CD for the first time and the stereo version newly remastered, plus several rare and new mixes created exclusively for this expanded edition, featuring alternate versions and alternate mixes of the hits. Among them: the original film version of the No. 1 hit "The Happening," which was re-cut for the single version and is now a revised, correct mix and edit of the version that appeared in The Supremes box set; a version of "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone" with a vocal previously available only on a Japanese Greatest Hits release; a new mix of "You're Gone (But Always In My Heart)" that includes previously muted strings; and a rare live concert from the Copacabana in New York, in May 1967, one of the last performances of the group with Florence Ballard. This spirited show, two years on from the Supremes album Live at the Copa, is a masterful blend of Supremes hits and show tunes, the epitome of Motown founder Berry Gordy's vision for his Detroit-based company.
Also included in the package are two booklets; they are, in addition to the music, a collector's dream: one, with 32 pages, has a new essay, detailed track annotations, a Supremes timeline, a new interview with Lamont Dozier, and rare and never-before-seen photographs. The other, with  24 pages, recreates The Supremes' 1967 souvenir tour program.
Fifty-plus years on, The Supremes Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland receives a well-deserved remastered expansion, produced by the team responsible for previous expanded editions, Andrew Skurow and George Solomon, and remastered by Universal Music's Kevin Reeves. These collections continue to keep us hangin' on to the most intuitive and most indelible blend of perfect harmonizing and majestic songwriting of the very best artists and creative teams Motown had to offer.

Old Rock House Presents:
Legends On The Lot
Jamey Johnson

with Sunny Sweeney & Ward Davis
Thursday 8-2-18
Old Rock House Outdoor Pavilion
Doors 6:30  Show 7:15
$37 Advance $40 Day of Show
All Ages
Tickets On-Sale 6/7 at 10am

This show is now with Jamey Johnson, outside.
We are honoring all tickets already purchased for the original Sunny & Ward show.
Tennessee Jet will now be playing inside Old Rock House after the outside show, as a free afterparty, for 21+ only.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson has been showered with plaques, trophies and award statuettes, but they aren’t the answer to his dreams. “My dream already came true,” says the Alabama native who has rocketed to Nashville stardom. “All I ever wanted was to get to just ride around and sing country music. It’s cool when things happen along the way, because those are things I never thought I could achieve. But whatever happens, I’ll just keep on doing what I do. I wake up every day and go play some more country music.”

Ward Davis is an American Singer/Songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. Born in Monticello, Arkansas, Ward moved to Nashville in 2000 and has since had songs recorded by Trace Adkins, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Wade Hayes, Sammy Kershaw, Bucky Covington, Jimmie Van Zant, Buddy Jewel, Carolina Rain, The Roys, and many others. Ward and his band, The Beagles, were featured and performed on the A&E reality series, Crazy Hearts: Nashville in early 2014. Ward's EP, No Bridges is available on iTunes, and he is currently working on a new album with Grammy winning producer, Jim "Moose" Brown, that is scheduled to be released Spring 2015.
Sunny Sweeney is the party and the morning after. She’s the quip that makes you laugh and the truth that makes you cry, the devil that’s egging you on and the angel whispering that you aren’t alone. But those compelling contradictions aren’t what’s most interesting about Sweeney: it’s the depth and brazen authenticity she brings to all her roles that grabs you and won’t let go. “I’ve grown up doing the bar scenes, and you have to have drinking and partying songs there-–you have to,” Sweeney says. “Now, my songs are still about the same things, but I feel like they’re more mature versions.” Sweeney’s salty wisdom and Texas-hewn soprano have never sounded stronger than they do on Trophy, her anticipated new album. Trophy is a breakthrough––the album we all suspected she was capable of making. The wit and honesty that have always defined her stone-cold country have blossomed into confessional, complex songwriting for grown-ups, still whiskey-drenched and honk-tonk-ready. Drugs, death, the ex-wife, drinking, devotion, and longing for a child: it’s all here, raw and real.

SUGARLAND TACKLES BIGGER ISSUES

Empathetic “Tuesday’s Broken” Inspires Conversation-Evoking Album

NASHVILLE, TN (June 1, 2018) – NPR Music offers a preview of the long-awaited album from one of Country music’s most celebrated duos, SUGARLAND, and opens a wider conversation on the culture of humanity. BIGGER is available for streaming now across the platform: https://www.npr.org/2018/05/31/615247730/first-listen-sugarland-bigger ahead of the June 8 release on Big Machine Records/UMG Nashville.

NPR’s Jewly Hight muses, “the duo has reunited for its fifth proper studio album, BIGGER, with the magnified bravado of a pop act mounting a comeback (see:
the lead single). But the new set also represents a conscious scaling up of the perspectives that Bush and Nettles' explore in their songs and honing of their awareness of how they come across to various audiences.”

The pair began with a simple meeting to see how their creative energies would mesh after six years apart and nearly 10 million albums sold domestically, seven No. 1 singles to date and more than 330 million on-demand streams. What resulted was a collection of songs that coupled familiar musical acrobatics alongside poignant lyrics and “[addressed] social crises in a grounded, unpretentious way” (NPR Music).

Sugarland’s empathetic view of the modern world resulted in tracks like “Tuesday’s Broken."  Commenting on the track, Hight says “they distilled parental concerns, horror at the rise of school shootings, the influence of Civil Rights activist Ruby Sayles and  socially conscious Irish rock into the poignant ballad "Tuesday's Broken," borrowing Sayles' inquiry into human pain: "Where does it hurt?"

Lyrics from the song pose:
But what if we tried to reach him with words
What if we looked in his eyes and asked where does it hurt
Would he find all he was worth
Monday was hoping
But Tuesday’s broken

Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush penned all but one track – “Babe” featuring Taylor Swift – and produced the project with Grammy-Award winner Julian Raymond. BIGGER’s also now available for pre-order and fans can experience the new music live as their STILL THE SAME 2018 TOUR rolls through 48 cities in the U.S. and Canada. For tour dates, visit https://sugarlandmusic.com/.

BRANDI CARLILES HOLD OUT YOUR HAND MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERES AT NPR MUSIC
FILMED DURING SEATTLES MARCH FOR OUR LIVES
VIDEO RELEASED TODAY IN CONJUNCTION WITH NATIONAL GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY
Carlillie brings tour to Peabody on June 22
In conjunction with National Gun Violence Awareness Day, Brandi Carlile’s music video for “Hold Out Your Hand” is premiering today via NPR Music. Watch/share HERE. Of the acclaimed musician, NPR Music’s Ann Powers declares, “…when Brandi Carlile commits to a cause, she commits. That's not a surprise—the Washington state-based singer-songwriter is famous for the depth of her dedication, whether to family, a cause, or the gorgeously crafted songs that have made her a central figure in the 21st-century singer-songwriter scene.”
Filmed during Seattle’s March For Our Lives, the video was directed by Kathlyn Horan and was created in partnership with The Alliance for Gun Responsibility, The IF Project and TinFish Films
From Carlile about the message behind the video…
I want everyone to know that I’ve had the incredible privilege of being a part of a movement that I genuinely believe in.
Wherever you stand in the debate around gun violence prevention, I hope we can all agree that young people deserve a voice and that in a civil society the least we can do is listen to and amplify the people we’re passing the world onto.
The kids in this video left their houses, put down their phones and showed up in Seattle to protest gun violence and ask for the adults in this country to take responsibility for what’s happening to them in their schools. This is the way I would want my daughters to communicate and this is a generation I am in complete support of.
These young people are asking for a change—are you listening?
Responsible gun laws are on a spectrum and as much as we’d like it to be, it isn’t black and white. Some of these kids hunt with their parents, some of them are enlisting into service and will carry a weapon in defense of your way of life. Don’t make the mistake of broad brushing what they’re asking for.
We can’t allow ourselves to be divided and conquered any longer by organizations that profit from our division. There can be and there IS a way that we can create change from the center of the debate.
The students behind March For Our Lives in Seattle made this video. This is me amplifying them.
Are you listening?
Reach beyond the line between the opposing sides of this hard conversation—Hold Out Your Hand.
“Hold Out Your Hand” is from Carlile’s acclaimed new album, By The Way, I Forgive You, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Current Albums chart, Rock Albums chart and Americana/Folk Albums chart and No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart—a career high for the acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer.
In addition to their work as a band, Carlile and longtime collaborators and bandmates Tim and Phil Hanseroth remain committed to social activism and advocacy. Together, they are founders of the Looking Out Foundation, which aims to amplify the impact of music by empowering those without a voice. From neighborhood to nation, the foundation helps fund causes and organizations that often go unnoticed. $1 from every concert ticket sold goes directly toward efforts to support the diverse demographic they aim to serve.
