Growing up in the Zappa family home, Dweezil Zappa marveled at his father's virtuoso skills as a composer and guitarist. After his father's passing he was inspired to do something to honor his father. Feeling as though there was a generational gap and a fair amount of public confusion as to what his father's music really was, Dweezil set about creating an opportunity for music fans to make a new discovery. Not satisfied with the generic journalistic descriptions that had been applied over the years or the accidental default association of "novelty act" he earned by way of the casual radio exposure of songs like "Don't Eat The Yellow Snow" and "Valley Girl," Dweezil Zappa decided it was time for a change. He wanted to expose core fans as well as a potential new generation of fans to his father's compositions in a way that would give them a balanced perspective of the totality of Frank Zappa's work. He wanted to play the music as it was written on the page without deviation except for the obvious improv sections. He also worked diligently to match the textures and timbres of the instrumentation in each song, especially the guitar tones, Evoking the character of each era of the catalog. He set out to have the music speak for itself. If Zappa Plays Zappa was to become a conduit for a new generation of people discovering Frank Zappa's music then Dweezil wanted to do his best so that very little could be lost in translation.

New Jersey folk rock outfit River City Extension have made some significant changes since releasing their 2012 sophomore album Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Your Anger. The once eight-member strong group has since slimmed down to a quintet, though the smaller lineup has still retained the band’s gritty and evocative focus. After spending the last year touring with the likes of Blind Pilot and Augustana, they’re back with their third album, Deliverance, due out March 10th, 2015 via Anchor & Hope Records. The LP’s latest single, “Indian Summer”, is just as serene and nostalgic as the title implies. The lush number blends heavy rock drums with wistful, dreamy string arrangements. Frontman Joe Michelini delivers a delicate vocal performance before erupting into screams near the end. The song’s rapid change of pace makes it a poignant reflection of how quickly life can pass by.

Critically Acclaimed Hit “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” Scores Best Original Song Nod

Nashville, TN (January 15, 2015) – Music Icon GLEN CAMPBELL’S GRAMMY® nominated song “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” can now add OSCAR nominee to its growing list of accolades. It was announced this morning that the song has been recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in the category of Best Original Song.

The song appears in the critically praised documentary GLEN CAMPBELL…I’LL BE ME, which follows Glen’s final tour and his struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Written by the legendary musician and producer Julian Raymond, the song is Glen’s final recording. Almost lumbering through the melody, Glen’s weathered tenor confesses the painful truths of what is lost, the cost – and the reality that it will all be lost to him, the man who can’t remember.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, only 20 Oscar nominations have ever been accorded to documentary features in categories other than the one designated for them (Best Documentary). GLEN CAMPBELL…I’LL BE will now be added to that list.

Kenny Chesney bringing Big Revival Tour to Scottrade Center in May

Kenny Chesney will kick off The Big Revival tour on his birthday, March 26, at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Tickets for the opening show go on sale Friday, January 23 through Ticketmaster.
The hometown concert marks Kenny’s first time playing a major tour in more than a year, and he plans to have a lot of famous friends from Music City on hand that night.  He says, “When you’re playing where everybody lives — and they know it’s a party, well, all kinds of people show up! So with the kinds of friends I have, who knows what kind of music we’ll be making before the night’s done.”
Jake Owen and Chase Rice are opening Kenny’s arena shows this year. He’s also teaming up with Jason Aldean, Eric Church and Brantley Gilbert for select stadium dates through the summer.

This year’s listing of over 500 bands marks an unprecedented musical gathering, even by Jazz Fest standards. Happiest of Fests to everyone; away we go!”
The mission of the Festival is to annually celebrate the unique culture and heritage of New Orleans and Louisiana alongside nationally and internationally renowned guest artists.  Jazz Fest takes place at the Fair Grounds Race Course and will once again feature twelve stages of music in such varied genres as rock, pop, R&B, gospel, blues, traditional and contemporary jazz, Cajun, zydeco and much more.  The Festival will present more than 500 bands during the seven-day event with over eighty percent of the performers hailing from the city and region.
Advanced single-day tickets for Jazz Fest are $58. The gate price ticket will be $70.  Children’s tickets (ages 2 - 10) are still only $5 and are available at the gate only.  Single-day tickets to Jazz Fest are on sale by specific weekend, with each ticket valid for a single day’s attendance. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Smoothie King Center Box Office.  All general admission Jazz Fest tickets are subject to additional service fees and handling charges.

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation, Inc., is the nonprofit organization that owns the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell. The Foundation uses the proceeds from Jazz Fest, and other revenues, for year-round activities in the areas of education, economic development and cultural enrichment. Education programs include the Don “Moose” Jamison Heritage School of Music, the Tom Dent Congo Square Lecture Series and the Class Got Brass competition. Economic Development initiatives include the Community Partnership Grants, the Sync Up entertainment industry conference and new programs such as the Catapult Fund and Brass Tacks. Cultural events include the Jazz Journey concert series and free community festivals: the Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival, the Congo Square New World Rhythms Festival, the Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival and the Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival. The much-beloved Jazz & Heritage Foundation Gala will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015.  The Gala is an evening of music, food and fun that directly supports the Don Jamison Heritage School of Music, a free music instruction program that reaches more than 85 students each week. Jazz Fest will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the New Orleans Center For Creative Arts (NOCCA) at this year’s event. The Festival will feature the NOCCA Pavilion, a large tent located at the heart of the Fair Grounds, showcasing the next generation of local artists.   Presentations from NOCCA students will include multidisciplinary live shows on the NOCCA Stage inside the Pavilion and the painting of a 20’ mural in front of the tent. Photo and multimedia exhibits will complete the presentation.

Dave Matthews Band announces 2015 tour dates, including date at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre

Last year, the Dave Matthews Band changed up their typical live m.o. by performing two sets at each tour stop, with the first of the acoustic variety. Apparently it was a hit as they will play two sets this summer as well during a just- announced tour.
The tour begins on May 13 at Austin360 Amphitheater in Austin and includes many visits to fan-favorite venues over the course of the summer as well as a few new to DMB sites. Dave Matthews Band returns to SPAC over July 4th weekend, ending a long- running string of Phish shows at the Saratoga Springs, New York venue over that holiday weekend. Once again, DMB will spend three nights at The George late in the tour over Labor Day Weekend.
The online presale for the Warehouse fan association begins Thursday, January 15 at 10 a.m. ET. Tickets go on sale to the public beginning Friday, February 13.
