SANTANA IV Debuts at #5 On Billboard's Top 200 Chart

New Studio Album Reunites Legendary Band Lineup 45 Years After Santana III

LAS VEGAS,  -- Santana IV has debuted at #5 on Billboard's Top 200 Chart, #2 on Billboard's Top Current Chart, #2 on Billboard's Rock Chart, and #1 on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart. Released April 15, 2016 on Santana IV Records with distribution by Thirty Tigers/RED Distribution, the wildly anticipated studio album reunites the revered early '70s lineup of guitar icon Carlos Santana (guitar, vocals), Gregg Rolie (keyboards, lead vocals), Neal Schon (guitar, vocals), Michael Carabello (percussion) and Michael Shrieve (drums). The album signifies the first time in 45 years – since 1971's multi-platinum classic Santana III – that the quintet has recorded together. This album marks Santana's fourteenth Top 10 album."We are thrilled with the opening week's results of our new record Santana IV," says Michael Vrionis, President of Santana IV Records, LLC. "People were waiting for this project for over 40 years. We knew from the first day in the studio that this music would resonate with our fans. We can't thank them enough for their continued support."
Santana IV features 16 all-new tracks written and produced by the band that burst with the same unparalleled energy and superlative musicianship that made Santana a pioneering force in world music and a household name across the globe. Joining the core Santana IV band on the album are current Santana members Karl Perazzo (percussion) and Benny Rietveld (bass), with the legendary vocalist Ronald Isley guesting on two cuts.
Few bands can pick up a musical dialog after 45 years apart, but on Santana IV each band member reaches a new level of virtuosity and communal intuition on a collection of songs that easily stands side-by-side with the group's treasured early work.
"When you can go back and break new ground with joy and determination – and some whoop-ass energy – it gets you going," says Santana. "I think we achieved something very rare. This music was screaming to come out of us. It wasn't about nostalgia. It was about passion."
Santana IV is currently available on CD, Double 180 Gram Vinyl with Download Card and Digital configurations.

Carlos Santana to Launch the Shape Shifter Tour 2012 With North American Dates Beginning July 7

SHAPE SHIFTER, THE NEW ALBUM FROM SANTANA, IS SET FOR RELEASE MAY 15

LOS ANGELES, -- Carlos Santana and the Santana Band will launch the Shape Shifter Tour 2012 with a string of North American dates beginning July 7 at the Grand Casino Mille Lacs in Hinckley, MN.  Other highlights include concerts at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in West Toronto, ON (7/14), the Bank of America Pavilion in Boston, MA (7/17), and two dates at the Borgata Spa & Resort Event Center in Atlantic City, NJ (7/20-21).  More dates to be announced!
The tour follows the May 15, 2012 release of Shape Shifter , the latest album from Santana—and the first for Carlos Santana's new label Starfaith Records.  The 13-song set is an instrumental tour de force long awaited by fans (one song features vocals by Santana's lead vocalists Andy Vargas and Tony Lindsay ). The album also features Chester Thompson on keyboards, Dennis Chambers on drums, Benny Rietveld on bass, Salvador Santana on keyboards, Raul Rekow on congas and Karl Perazzo on percussion.
Comprising mostly original compositions that Carlos has been setting aside for such an instrumental project, Shape Shifter 's specially chosen tracks flow together as the magical sustain of his guitar and the spirit behind every note creates music that defies all cultural and language barriers—the music of Santana.  In that spirit, Carlos dedicated the album to Native Americans, acknowledging Australia's 2008 apology to the Aborigines, and President Obama's signing of the 2009 Native American Apology Resolution.  He says, "I encourage any and all countries (that have not as yet done so) to acknowledge the first people of their land, and make this a collective global effort."
On the Shape Shifter Tour 2012, Santana will perform selections from the new album, as well as classics from the group's more than four-decades-long career.  Also this year, on May 2, Santana begins a two-year residency performing at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Since Santana emerged from the San Francisco Bay Area music scene in the 1960s, the group has sold more than 100 million records, reached more than 100 million fans at concerts worldwide, and been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Santana has won 10 GRAMMYs, including a record-tying nine for a single project, 1999's Supernatural (including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for "Smooth").  With the 2010 release of Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time, Santana joined the Rolling Stones as one of only two music acts in Billboard history to score at least one Top Ten album in each decade from the 1960s on.  Among other honors, Carlos Santana is #20 on Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time"—"Santana's crystalline tone and clean arcing sustain make him the rare instrumentalist who can be identified in just one note."
