For Black Music Month this year, Apple Music is celebrating on a worldwide scale with ‘All Music is Black Music,’ an exploration of the legacy, artistry, impact, and influence of Black musicians around the globe. Created in the 1970s, Black Music Month is a celebration focused on the contributions of Black musicians, singers, composers, and songwriters, which comprise an essential part of our nation’s treasured cultural heritage. Black Music Month may be an American-created celebration, but the wellspring of rhythms and robust musical traditions that originated across the African continent remain the through line which ties together all Black music and much of the world’s popular music. For the first time ever, Apple Music is taking the significance of Black Music Month worldwide with bespoke global playlists in over 30+ different countries that explore the undeniable impact of Black music on local popular music
"Our teams at Apple Music are pushing the Black Music Month conversation internationally, working to make sure the world understands that all popular music today was started by Black people,” said Apple Music’s Global Editorial Head of Hip-Hop and R&B Ebro Darden.
All throughout the month, Apple Music will showcase the seeds and roots of popular genres, from Jazz and the musical wellspring of regions like East and West Africa to Rock n Roll, EDM and the universality of hip-hop. Each week, Apple Music will honor and champion the global impact of Black music through hundreds of playlists highlighting Black artistry and influence around the world.
'A Celebration of Black Music’ short film features a collection of some of music’s brightest stars—from Arlo Parks and Mickey Guyton to GIVĒON and Kirk Franklin—speaking on the beauty and power of Black music to entertain, heal, and make a difference.
Apple Music also commissioned 15 new DJ Mixes from standout Black artists including Honey Dijon, Amorphous, DB Mongo, DJ Clue, DāM FunK, Snoop Dogg and more. Across the platform, Apple Music’s Black Music Month will feature special programming on Apple Music TV and in radio programming across Apple Music 1, Apple Music Country and Apple Music Hits.
