BAND ANNOUNCE NEW FULL-LENGTH STUDIO ALBUM
TO BE RELEASED THIS FALL!
AS YET UNTITLED FOLLOW-UP TO AVIATION, RELEASED EARLIER THIS SPRING, WILL BE THE BAND'S SECOND ALBUM THIS YEAR
Los Angeles, CA - August 20, 2014 - Semi Precious Weapons have revealed a brand new song titled "Brando,"
the debut single from their upcoming new full-length studio album to be
released later this fall. The as yet untitled surprise new album will
be the band's second full-length release this year and follow-up to Aviation,
released in April. The upcoming album was written, recorded and
produced entirely by the band at their home studio in Los Angeles, with
Tricky Stewart serving as executive producer. As with Semi Precious
Weapons previous album, Aviation, the band's new album will also be released via Stewart's RedZone Records label.
Following
the success of "Aviation High," their first top 40 alternative single,
the band has been playing radio shows all over the country sharing
stages with Cage The Elephant, Bleachers and Phantogram."Brando"
will officially become available and impact at radio on August 26. "The
song 'Brando' is not only inspired by the man himself, but also uses
him and some of his movies as metaphors for a very over the top intense
relationship I had with my last boyfriend," said singer Justin Tranter.
"We
decided to release a brand new single and album so quickly because we
were inspired by the 'Golden Age of Rock and Roll' - a time when artists
were releasing multiple albums a year," continued Tranter. "There was a
period in his career when Elton John put out six albums in two and a
half years. We have songs that we love, songs that we just wrote, and we
don't want to wait to share them. Both sonically and emotionally, this
is who we are right now. We are fortunate to be at a label that is cool
enough to support us putting this out right now. The rules of an 'album
cycle' as set by the record industry don't work for people who really
love music anymore, so why follow them."
All
of the artwork for the single and album will feature classic
photographs by the renowned George Platt Lynes. Says Tranter, "While
trying to educate myself on great gay artists I came across George's
photos and felt an immediate connection. One, because they are visually
stunning, and two, because they are just fucking hot. He was so ahead of
his time artistically and socially that the fact his estate is allowing
us to use these images just blows my mind."
Semi Precious Weapons formed in 2006 and released their debut album We Love You
in 2008. Graduates of the Berklee College of Music, the band
immediately began drawing attention for their raucously tight and
famously over the top live shows. Garnering
a cult-like fan base and stunning critical acclaim, as well as a host
of celebrity followers and industry insiders along the way, the band was
awarded "Best Live Band" by the Village Voice Reader's Poll. With sold out shows across the country, the buzz and accolades only continued to mount. Their follow-up full length You Love You
only solidified the group's ambitions as songwriters, as performers,
and as the torchbearers of everything that embodies rock and roll. The
band relocated from New York City to Los Angeles where they began
collaborating with producer "Tricky" Stewart on new material, before
signing to his new RedZone Music label venture RedZone Records and
releasing Aviation in the spring of 2014.
Over
the years, Semi Precious Weapons have performed for millions of people
across world supporting Lady Gaga on her year-and-a-half long "The
Monster Ball" tour, Ke$ha's summer "Warrior Tour", headlining their own
"Dirty Showbiz Tour" and performing at festivals from Lollapalooza to
the Isle of Wight.
Semi Precious Weapons is Justin Tranter on vocals, Cole Whittle on bass, Dan Crean on drums, and Stevy Pyne on guitar.
