he Soggy Bottom Boys Reunite as O Brother, Where Art Thou? Turns 10

LOS ANGELES, CA—Chickenfoot, the supergroup featuring guitarist Joe Satriani, drummer Chad Smith, and former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and frontman Sammy Hagar, debuts their music video for the song "Three and a Half Letters (I Need a Job)” today.  The song, from their recent release, Chickenfoot III ( eOne Music/Edel/EarMusic), is  motivated by the dismal economy, which has led to problems such as hunger and job loss, and features letters that were sent to Hagar as pleas for help.  Chickenfoot is partnering with Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, to encourage fans to help alleviate some of the effects of the economy.  The band will perform “Three and a Half Letters” on Jimmy Kimmel Live on the evening of November 3rd.

"I received a lot of letters from people over the years who were looking for help or work and recently I received one from an Afghan War Veteran that ended with 'Can you help? On November 29 in North America and December 5 internationally, EMI Music will launch an extensive campaign honoring the legacy of THE SMASHING PUMPKINS by reissuing the iconic alternative band's first two albums-- GISH (1991) and SIAMESE DREAM (1993), certified platinum and 4X platinum respectively--in CD, deluxe 2CD/DVD,  vinyl LP, and  digital configurations. Both albums, each with bonus content and special features that were curated from the band's archives by founding member Billy Corgan , have been painstakingly remastered for the first time from the original master tapes by Bob Ludwig .   *See all track listings below.

With the full support and guidance from THE SMASHING PUMPKINS--who've created one of the most acclaimed bodies of work in musical history, selling over 30 million albums--EMI's global catalog reissue campaign will last through 2013; it will encompass all the band's albums and B-sides from 1991-2000, with other release dates to be announced.  The pivotal group's many hits defined the alternative music era and continue to resonate on modern rock radio, influencing a whole new generation.   Gish highlights include "I Am One," "Siva" and "Rhinoceros," while Siamese Dream features "Cherub Rock," "Today" and "Disarm."  Both groundbreaking albums were produced by Butch Vig and Billy Corgan.
As THE SMASHING PUMPKINS get the fully remastered treatment via these reissues, the band is excited to be moving forward by creating new music.  After touring America and Europe this fall--the trek launched October 5 in Los Angeles and wraps December 8 in Lisbon --they will release OCEANIA , "an album within an album," as part of their in-progress 44-song work TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE .  Featuring 13 new songs, OCEANIA will be released in early 2012 (further details TBA).
For the GISH and SIAMESE DREAM liner notes, Billy Corgan was interviewed by journalist/author David Wild.  Corgan reflects on why these albums were hard-won triumphs for the band and discusses the origins of the songs. In the SIAMESE DREAM liner notes, Corgan says: "We start the album out with 'Cherub Rock' which is basically my big F.U. to the indie world. If you read the lyrics, that was basically me railing against the hipper than thou New York indie mentality."

NASHVILLE - The lineup for "The 45^th Annual CMA Awards" continues to grow with today's announcement that Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Scotty McCreery, Sugarland, and Zac Brown Band will perform on "Country Music's Biggest Night(tm)."

  

"The 45^th Annual CMA Awards," hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, airs live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Wednesday, Nov. 9 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network. Previously announced performers include Jason Aldean, The Band Perry, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Faith Hill, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift, Thompson Square, Keith Urban, and Chris Young, plus Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter singing their hit collaboration "You and Tequila," Rascal Flatts and Natasha Bedingfield singing their current hit duet "Easy," and co-hosts Paisley and Underwood in their first live televised-performance of their No. 1 song "Remind Me."    

Evans earned two nominations this year, Female Vocalist and Single of the Year (for the multi-week No. 1 and Platinum-certified digital single "A Little Bit Stronger"). She has received one CMA Award thus far, Music Video of the Year (2001 for "Born to Fly"). Her current album is Stronger.

 

McBride is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year.  She has won five CMA Awards, including Music Video (in 1994 for "Independence Day") and four Female Vocalist of the Year Awards (1999, 2002-2004), which ties her with Reba McEntire for the most wins in that category. She recently released her album, Eleven.

 

McCreery, the 18-year old 2011 winner of "American Idol," recently made history when his first album Clear as Day debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. He is the youngest male solo artist to achieve this feat. The album features his Gold-certified digital single "I Love You This Big" and his current hit, "The Trouble with Girls." This will be his debut CMA Awards performance. 

 

Sugarland is nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year, an Award they have won for the last four consecutive years (2007-2010).  Their most recent album is the Platinum-certified The Incredible Machine, which featured the Double Platinum-certified digital single "Stuck Like Glue." Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles will once again host "CMA Country Christmas," which tapes in Nashville on Nov. 10 and will air later this year on ABC.

 

Zac Brown Band is nominated in four categories: Vocal Group, Album (for You Get What You Give), Musical Event (for "As She's Walking Away" with Alan Jackson), and Single of the Year (for "Colder Weather"). Bandmates Zac Brown and Coy Bowles were also nominated for Song of the Year (for co-writing "Colder Weather"). Lead singer Brown could potentially pick up two additional trophies for co-producing the Album and Single of the Year. Zac Brown Band won the CMA New Artist of the Year Award in 2010.

NEW ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: The Dirt Drifters

Words like “gritty” come to mind when The Dirt Drifters take to the stage. Of course, there’s no shortage of grit out there, but something in the sound of this five-piece separates it from the pack.
Maybe it’s the vivid images on these 11 tracks performed by band members: drummer Nick Diamond, lead singer/guitarist Matt Fleener, singer/guitarist Ryan Fleener, bassist Jeremy Little and singer/guitarist Jeff Middleton. The images — cigarettes and beer cans on “Sun Goes Down” (written by Matt Fleener, Middleton and Rivers Rutherford), the bullet holes, blue lights and traces of cheap perfume on “Married Men and Motel Rooms” (Middleton, Mark Irwin and Josh Kear) — seem to have been scraped up from a cellar of hard-time memories. (The group wrote or co-wrote all but one track on the album.)
Then there’s the performance, the power chords, the galloping groove that feels like you’re taking corners a little too fast on “Something Better” (Diamond, Matt Fleener, Ryan Fleener and Middleton), the blue-collar epic that John Mellencamp might have conceived had he grown up in a Southern factory town (“Always a Reason,” Ryan Fleener, Middleton and Justin Wilson), the way that lyrics come to life in the union of Matt Fleener’s whiskey-rough lead vocals and pristine backup harmonies.
Drawn from New Jersey, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Tennessee, The Dirt Drifters found each other in Nashville. Warner Bros. signed them and producer Justin Niebank captured their spirit on This Is My Blood. And they’re not waiting for success to come to them; on tour dates beginning in August, they’ve giving two copies of their debut CD to audience members, one to keep and the other to pass along. They call it “Give Blood”; we call it building a base one fan at a time.

ALAN JACKSON INDUCTED INTO

NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME

 

 

NASHVLLE, Tenn.  (Oct. 17, 2011)   Country music superstar Alan Jackson received yet another honor last night as he was inducted into the prestigious Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame as a 2011 Songwriter/Artist inductee at the 41^st Anniversary Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction ceremony.

 

Jackson was officially inducted by Capitol Records Nashville President and CEO and long-time friend Mike Dungan.  Afterwards he addressed the audience, “Denise and I packed up a U-haul and moved to Nashville and I didn't know a publisher from a producer. I was stupid enough not to be scared. I have written songs about the ups and downs of married life, songs for the working man, a song about when my daddy died, when my first child left home - I just write whatever I feel.  I never wrote a song to get a Grammy or Country Music Award.   All of these things are just life and that is what country music has always been to me.”

 

Taylor Swift and The Wrights paid tribute to Jackson’s songwriting during the event, held at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. Swift performed “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning),” and The Wrights offered a medley of the hits “Good Time,” “Remember When,” “Chattahoochee,” “Don’t Rock The Jukebox” and “Here In The Real World.”

 

Jackson is one of today’s most prolific songwriters – his straightforward, honest and sincere lyrics reflect the essence of country music and speak to the common man.  He has written/co-written 24 of his 35 #1 hit singles. This places him second only to Merle Haggard in country music history as artists who have written or co-written #1 songs they have also recorded. The newly released itinerary has the second leg of the “Own The Night 2012 World Tour” beginning in Tulsa Jan. 27 and wrapping in Indianapolis June 29. Cities along the way include Des Moines (Jan. 28); Salt Lake City (Feb. 14); Nashville (Feb. 22); Chicago (March 9); Seattle (March 20); San Jose (March 23); Kansas City (April 6); New York City (May 3); Philadelphia (May 19) and Atlanta (June 22).
There are also a few stops in Canada such as Saskatoon (March 14); Calgary (March 16); Edmonton (March 17); Vancouver (March 19); Montreal (June 14); Ottawa (June 15) and Toronto (June 16).
Darius Rucker and special guest Thompson Square appear on all dates.
“This is the tour we’ve always dreamed of putting together,” Lady A’s Charles Kelley said in a statement. “We got to help design the stage and really collaborate on new production ideas, and now we’re just really trying to hone in on the perfect set list to give fans a cool mix of hits and some of their favorite songs from the new record. Plus, we’ve been working on some really intimate moments for our show, where we can really break things down and be close to the crowd. I can’t wait for the next nine months!”

Even in a city that doesn’t play by the rules, New Orleans’ Bonerama is something different. They can evoke vintage funk, classic rock and free improvisation in the same set; maybe even the same song. Bonerama has been repeatedly recognized by Rolling Stone, hailed as “the ultimate in brass balls” (2005) and praised for their “…crushing ensemble riffing, human-feedback shrieks and wah-wah growls” (2007). Bonerama carries the brass-band concept to places unknown; what other brass band could snag an honor for “Best Rock Band” (Big Easy Awards 2007)? As cofounder Mark Mullins puts it, “We thought we could expand what a New Orleans brass band could do. Bands like Dirty Dozen started the “anything goes” concept, bringing in the guitars and the drum kit and using the sousaphone like a bass guitar. We thought we could push things a little further.”
