July 30, 2021 – 25 years ago today, Sublime’s self-titled album was released after the untimely passing of lead singer Bradley Nowell, spawning timeless hits like “What I Got,” “Santeria,” and “Wrong Way.” The iconic album continues to connect with fans and live on a quarter-century after its initial release, as the music endures and new generations discover Sublime. To celebrate the 25th anniversary, the band’s  management  Surfdog/DKM in conjunction with UMe have arranged a number of special releases and events, plus new merch with Live Nation and other partners to commemorate the milestone.

“Garden Grove” and “Pawn Shop” Official Music Videos: The official music video for fan favorite “Pawn Shop” will be released in the coming weeks and is animated in the style of psychedelic-surfer-punk-graffiti, inspired by late-night edgy animations with Sublime’s iconography morphing throughout. The “Garden Grove” video was shot as a “love letter” to the Long Beach lifestyle and was released earlier this year. “Garden Grove” can be viewed here: https://sublime.lnk.to/25thAnniversary.

Travis Barker ProjectTravis Barker is currently in the studio producing covers, remixes and collaborating with artists of all genres to reimagine various Sublime songs from the iconic self-titled album.

"We're not trying to write punk rock. We're not trying to write reggae. We're not trying to write ska," Sublime's Bradley Nowell told KROQ in 1995. "We're just trying to write a good song." They did exactly that—time and time again. "What I Got," "Santeria," "Wrong Way," and "Doin' Time" remain innovative staples from the '90s alternative boom. But they accomplished even more: In less than a decade within the national limelightthe laid-back Long Beach trio spawned an entire genre—fusing reggae grooves, punk grittiness, ska energy, back porch folk introspection, and hip-hop swagger. Decades after the tragic death of singer-songwriter Bradley Nowell, Sublime remain an institution: With over 18 million in album consumption in the U.S. according to MRC; and their merchandise, emblazoned with the iconic sun logo, dominates sales at retailers including Target, Urban Outfitters and Spencer Gifts. Most importantly, the music remains timeless—a rite of passage for misfit listeners who refuse to color within the lines of conventional genre.

About Sublime:

Sublime, the Long Beach, CA, reggae-punk/alternative rock trio, was founded in 1988 by Eric Wilson, Bud Gaugh and Bradley Nowell. Their first self-produced album, 40oz. to Freedom, was released in 1992 via the band’s label Skunk Records. The success of that album and heavy radio exposure by Southern California’s KROQ (two years after its initial release) secured Sublime signing to MCA Records in time for the band’s 1994 sophomore album, Robbin’ the Hood, which revealed an experimental ethic more in keeping with cut-and-paste dub than the well-tuned rage of the Cali punk revival. The album performed well at college radio and set the stage for the breakout success of their self-titled third album. On May 25, 1996, however, lead vocalist and guitarist Nowell tragically passed away and the band collapsed, but the eponymous SUBLIME was still slated for a July 1996 release. On the strength of the chart-topping alternative radio hit “What I Got,” the album was certified gold by the end of 1996. “Santeria” and “Wrong Way” followed and enjoyed heavy airplay, and their self-titled album eventually sold more than seven million copies, making it one of the most popular reggae-punk albums in history. Such success spread to the band’s earlier albums too, leading 40oz. to Freedom to double-platinum sales and Robbin’ the Hood to gold certification. Sublime have gone on to sell millions of albums in the US, and their genre-defining music and their cultural influence is stronger today than ever before.

NEW DOCUMENTARY PROMISES TO BRING A NEW GENERATION OF MUSIC FANS TO THE SHRINE OF LEGENDARY LEFTY FRIZZELL
Lefty Frizzell
DEADLINE Details Project Launch On Country Music Great Known As "The Original Elvis"
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – July 19, 2021 – As featured in DEADLINE, Extrovert Entertainment, under the creative direction of Emmy-award-winning director/producer, M. Douglas Silverstein, today announced signing a deal to produce a major documentary and a biopic on country music legend, singer/songwriter Lefty Frizzell.

“We are so excited and honored to be working as a family to make these films happen,” says Marlon Frizzell, son of Lefty Frizzell. “Lefty was one of the most influential singers you’ve never really heard of unless you were a hardcore country music fan. However, his music reached so many and influenced so many outside of the country genre, including Elvis and Roy Orbison.”

Lefty’s recording career in the national spotlight lasted only twenty-five years, producing a total of 39 Top 100 songs and six #1 hits on the Billboard charts, yet few artists can match the long shadow of influence cast by Lefty Frizzell. His major hits included “I Love You A Thousand Ways,” “Always Late,” “Long Black Veil,” “That’s The Way Love Goes” “If You’ve Got The Money” I’ve Got The Time,” “Mom & Dad’s Waltz,” and “Saginaw Michigan.”

“Lefty is often referred to as the original Elvis, from the way he moved on stage, his legendary stage clothes, and how his good looks and voice made women swoon but beyond his talent is a fascinating story worthy of both a documentary and biopic," said M. Douglas Silverstein. "I’m thrilled to be working directly with the Frizzells’ to show the world the full legacy of Lefty Frizzell from the man, the many myths, and the wonderful music he created!”

Passing at the young age of 47, on July 19, 1975, Lefty had created a legacy of stylistic influence on a new generation of music industry greats to come. His traditional country roots and unique vocal styling was imprinted on a legion of hitmakers who openly credit Lefty Frizzell as their inspiration – a list that includes Merle Haggard, George Jones, Roy Orbison, Randy Travis, Keith Whitley, John Fogerty, and Willie Nelson who recorded a whole album of Lefty songs out of respect to his hero.

Lefty became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in July of 1951. He has been posthumously honored with induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Grammy Hall of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.

In the forward of the book, 'I Love You A Thousand Ways,' written by younger brother, David Frizzell, Merle Haggard wrote: “The impact Lefty had on country music is not even measurable. No one could handle a song like Lefty. He would hold on to each note and on each word until he finally decided to drop it and pick up the next one. Most of us learned to sing listening to him.” Also as Loretta Lynn states, “He will always be one of the greatest country singers who ever lived.”

“It has been my goal for a long time to get brother Lefty’s story documented on the big screen,” says David Frizzell. “Now, with the help of M. and all the great people behind the camera, we are finally going to get to make this a reality.”

The new Frizzell film production will be captured through the creative lens of M. Douglas Silverstein, the production/direction energy behind many multi-award-winning projects including globally broadcast live concerts, documentaries, commercials, and special productions for TV, and film. He has produced live concerts for clients as diverse as Green Day, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the United Nations. He has done high-profile national branding productions, including Madonna, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, and Timbaland. His documentary credits include Paul McCartney, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Willie Nelson, Foo Fighters, Duran Duran, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Through his Extrovert Entertainment production house, Fortune 500 production projects have included Google, Best Buy, Verizon, LG, AT&T, Microsoft, Mazda, and Dodge.

New England is home to 32,300 farms across six states ― ConnecticutMaineVermontNew HampshireMassachusetts and Rhode Island — with an additional 33,438 farms in New York State. The Northeast is a hotbed for innovative progress in agriculture, including local and regional food systems, organic production, work to advance racial justice in agriculture, and regenerative agriculture methods of the Indigenous Americans who farmed this land first. The Northeast includes some of the top states for new and beginning farmers, as well as female farmers. Challenges of farmers in this region include access to farmland and credit, fair prices (particularly in dairy) and climate change.

For more than 35 years, Farm Aid, with the support of the artists who contribute their performances each year, has raised more than $60 million to support programs that help farmers thrive, expand the reach of the Good Food Movement, take action to change the dominant system of industrial agriculture and promote food from family farms.
