TOM KEIFER
WORKING ON BONUS TRACKS IN NASHVILLE
WITH ACCLAIMED PRODUCER/ENGINEER VANCE POWELL
FOR DELUXE EDITION OF ‘THE WAY LIFE GOES’
SET FOR RELEASE LATER THIS YEAR;

U.S. TOUR CONTINUES STARTING APRIL 2

March 22, 2016 -- In 2013, TOM KEIFER released his highly-anticipated debut solo album, THE WAY LIFE GOES, to rave reviews and immediately kicked off a non-stop touring schedule. Flash forward to 2016.

Now, as a “thank you” to his fans who have supported him and the long-awaited solo project for the past few years by attending one packed show after another, KEIFER and his bandmates (#keiferband: Tony Higbee/guitars and vocals, Billy Mercer/bass and vocals, Paul Simmons, drums and vocals, Paul Taylor/keyboards and vocals, Savannah Keifer/vocals, percussion and piano, Kendra Chantelle/vocals and percussion) will being entering a Nashville studio later this month to record with four-time Grammy® Award-winning producer/engineer Vance Powell (Elle King, Chris Stapleton, Jack White).

The new tracks will be featured as bonus material on an expanded, deluxe edition of KEIFER’s critically acclaimed 2013 solo debut album, THE WAY LIFE GOES.  Set for release later this year, the package will also include the original album that’s currently being remastered by Richard Dodd (Kings of Leon, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum), a bonus DVD with video extras, a documentary about the creation of the bonus tracks, and exclusive interviews with the band filmed during the new recording sessions.

The as-yet-untitled deluxe set will be wrapped in an all new expanded art package designed
by artist David Calcano (creator of the Fantoons comic strip series) with one-of-a-kind unique illustrations depicting each song. KEIFER credits a framed collage designed by Calcano of images depicting life, members of his band and songs from THE WAY LIFE GOES that was given
to him by his tour manager, Gene Aldridge, as the inspiration to release the deluxe edition.

“That one gift,” said KEIFER, “instantly made us think about all the incredible people, adventures and inspiration that had come into our lives over the last few years. The new deluxe edition is our way of celebrating the way life’s gone since the initial release. It’s been an amazing journey!”

The new package’s bonus track song titles, release date and some other very special surprises will be announced in the coming weeks.

Upon its initial release, THE WAY LIFE GOES garnered rave reviews. To wit:

“A collection of 14 blues howlers, Stones-y rock and, yes, big ballads, the album calls to mind Cinderella but with an even more rootsy undercurrent.”
--Joseph Hudak, Rolling Stone
“…14 songs that stay true to form – killer blues-rock playing and tones, hooks galore, and strong songwriting. If you’re a fan of harder-edged rock and long to hear genuinely enjoyable new tunes, it may be just the thing; the opener, ‘Solid Ground,’ offers pure Keifer guitar and vocals with a feel reminiscent the Stones’ Exile On Main Street while the remaining tracks are, much like his life the last 15 years, an up-and-down ride.”
--Ward Meeker, Vintage Guitar,

“...the record features such vital, vibrant guitar tones and parts that are immediate and honest.  They also have that cool, interlocking, layered quality that made so many classic rock albums so, well, classic.  Keifer flat-out knows how to play vibey guitar parts with ungodly tone, and fans of the Stones, Zeppelin, Steve Marriott, and early Aerosmith should definitely take notice.  And, although you wouldn’t wish hemorrhaging vocal cords on anyone, this guy is singing better than ever to complement his great 6-string parts.”
--Matt Blackett, Guitar Player,

“...an amazing, raspy voice and a knack for writing songs that lodge themselves on the brain and refuse to leave for days...”
--Gerry Gittleson, Los Angeles Daily News,

“The Way Life Goes marks the first release of any kind by Keifer since Cinderella’s last record, 1994’s Still Climbing. In many ways, it picks up right where the band left off. The first single, ‘The Flower Song,’ echoes ‘Maggie May,’ the familiar grit in Keifer’s voice approximating Faces-era Rod Stewart; but for the most part the album replicates the blend of pounding hard rock, soaring ballads and blues and country tinges that characterized Cinderella’s sound beginning with Long Cold Winter.”
--Shaun Brady, Philadelphia City Paper,

“’The Flower Song,’ his premiere solo offering, smacks of the Black Crowes/the Faces.”
--Katherine Turman, Village Voice (NY),

Josh Ritter and The Royal City band will continue their North American tour this May, with additional shows added in New Orleans, Milwaukee, Cleveland and more. This extensive run of tour dates supports Ritter’s acclaimed new album, Sermon On The Rocks (Pytheas Recordings/ Thirty Tigers), and follows recent sold-out shows at New York’s Beacon Theatre, D.C.’s 9:30 Club and Nashville’s Cannery Ballroom, among others. See below for complete details.

In celebration of Sermon On The Rocks, Ritter was recently featured on “PBS NewsHour” as well as on “CBS This Morning” as part of their “Saturday Sessions” series (watch the full performances here: “Getting Ready To Get Down,” “Homecoming” and “To The Dogs Or Whoever”).

Sermon On The Rocks is receiving widespread critical praise:

 “Favorite Songs Of 2015”—NPR Music

“…it’s an approach that brings out some of Ritter’s slipperiest, nimblest wordplay…and a few genuine head-turners. Not many singers could pull off a whopper like, ‘If you wanna see a miracle, watch me get down,’ but when Ritter gets there near the end of ‘Getting Ready To Get Down,’ it lands like a grand punchline.”—NPR Music

 “50 Best Songs of 2015”—Paste

“80 Best Albums of 2015”—Popmatters

“‘Homecoming’ moves from a solo piano setting a butterscotch tone, to the voice of a young man backed by a band chugging in the background; to an acoustic middle eight and back to the glorious rhythm…It’s seamless, sweet, and real”—The Huffington Post

“The literary-minded songwriter Josh Ritter…recharges his music on his eighth studio album, Sermon on the Rocks…Harking back to Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and maybe a little Mark Knopfler, Mr. Ritter has always been a slinger of serious ideas and high-flown imagery” —The New York Times

“The new album’s music is airy, propulsive and more often than not, catchy.”
The Wall Street Journal

Produced by Ritter and Trina Shoemaker (Queens of the Stone Age, Emmylou Harris), Sermon on the Rocks was recorded over two weeks at New Orleans’ The Parlor Recording Studio and features Matt Barrick from The Walkmen on drums, Zachariah Hickman on bass, Josh Kaufman on guitar and Sam Kassirer on piano.

Of his inspiration behind Sermon on the Rocks, Ritter comments, “I wanted to play messianic oracular honky-tonk.”

Over the course of his acclaimed career, Ritter has released seven full-length albums including his most recent, 2013’s The Beast In Its Tracks, which debuted at #22 on the Billboard 200 and #8 on the Top Rock Albums chart. The record also received widespread critical praise—NPR Music called it, “…gorgeous and glorious,” while Pitchfork asserted, “Beast is contemplative and forgiving, a means of burying one relationship to commit to another, and Ritter nicely evokes the excitement and resignation of such a transition.” Additionally, in 2011, Ritter made is debut as a published author with his New York Times best-selling novel, Bright’s Passage (Dial Press/Random House). Of the work, Stephen King writes in The New York Times Book Review, “Shines with a compressed lyricism that recalls Ray Bradbury in his prime…This is the work of a gifted novelist.”

Black Stone Cherry bridges the gap between the blue collar craftsmanship of dirty, bluesy, ballsy, pedal-to-the-metal Hard Rock steeped in the ancestral lineage of Southern Rock and the warm, broad embrace of the rock radio mainstream. There’s enough boot stomping, soulful meat-and-potatoes in the Kentucky band’s stew to invigorate Middle America, with the melodic chops to conquer the worldwide stage. The Allman Brothers and Metallica meeting up, getting drunk, raising some hell and then crashing into a big brawl together, only to have Robert Johnson break it all up? That’s

Kenny Chesney Taps Another Keg
Sloppy Joe’s in Key West Was Site of Surprise Show

KEY WEST, Fla. (Monday, March 21, 2016) - Word started to spread Friday: a keg show at Key West’s iconic Sloppy Joe’s March 21. Fans stood in line all night long, and by 6 a.m. Duval Street was blocked off for what local officials knew would be an overflow crowd that would shut the street down. By the time “Mas Tequila” rolled at 5:02, the fans were primed and ready as Kenny Chesney and band swung into “Beer In Mexico” with a vengeance.

A quick tumble down and through a blazing “Til It’s Gone,” a lilting “Summertime” and a reggae-undertowed “Pirate Flag” got the party off to a musically robust start with the crowd singing along as loud as the man The Los Angeles Times called “The People’s Superstar.” Arms aloft, giant smile on his face, Chesney welcomed the so-far-beyond-capacity crowd with a witness about how much these keg shows mean.
“We’ve been off, and we’re getting to know each other again,” Chesney proclaimed. “Nothing gets us as in the mood to go out and play music for you all summer long quite like coming down to the Florida Keys and doing this show: old songs, new songs, we may even make up some songs before the night is over.”
Before it was over the night included Eric Church sitting in for several songs, including “Springsteen,” “Drink In My Hand” and a stripped down, Chesney-requested “Mr. Misunderstood.” Old Dominion’s Matthew Ramsey joined the eight-time Entertainer of the Year for The Big Revival’s three-week No. 1, “Save It For A Rainy Day,” which he co-wrote. In addition, Chesney and band covered a plethora of artists they revere: the Kinks’ “You Really Got Me,” Willie Nelson’s “Whiskey River,” John Mellencamp’s “Hurts So Good,” Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Pride & Joy,” George Strait’s “The Fireman” and “Carried Away,” a double-time version of Alabama’s “Dixieland Delight” featuring Jon Conley on fiddle and a jubilant culmination of the Eagles’ “Take It Easy.”
From a young girl on her mother’s hip to NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr., NFL players to 4th Generation Conchs, an eclectic audience turned out for the (un)official kick-off of Chesney’s tour. Dressed in a sleeveless green Boston t-shirt, the night – which lasted more than three hours – felt as good to the East Tennessean as it did to the crowd.
“There is nothing after several months off,” Chesney said after the show. “Like coming together, hitting a bar and just playing ’til we wanna drop, to remember every single thing you love about music: how it feels, what it means, the way it charges people up. There is no feeling like it, and to do it with friends, fans and the No Shoes Nation, well, it tells me it’s time to get out there and start rocking America.”
Chesney’s Spread the Love Tour kicks off April 23, where it will be the first concert at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium. On Thursday, March 24, Chesney’s “Noise,” about the sonic and mental overload of today’s world, hits radio hard. With a special Facebook event slated for 3:45p CT/ 4:45p ET, Chesney is just getting started on the year ahead.

Kenny Chesney Turns Up The “Noise” March 24
New Single Takes on America’s Overwhelming Crush of Sound

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Monday, March 21, 2016) - When Kenny Chesney walked into a marketing meeting late and on the phone, it was obvious he was focused. What no one knew was the East Tennessee superstar/songwriter was hip-deep in a conversation with Shane McAnally that would become “Noise,” completed that day – and rushed into the studio two days later.
“Sometimes you know you’ve got something so timely, so right then, you have to grab it,” Chesney says. “It seemed like everywhere I turn, everywhere I go, there is so much stuff coming at you. Your phone, your car, on the streets, on TV. Everywhere it’s just so loud, so much, so many different things – all pushing buttons, being sensational, shouting for attention.  You can’t escape it, and you can’t turn it down.”
“When Shane and I started talking the next morning, the topic came up, then the song fell out with a real meter and the sense ‘This is a lyric.’ We got started, and I knew I had to get to that meeting – and was literally writing in the car as I was driving into town. I actually sat in my manager’s parking lot, still working on the lines, the phrasing, the rhythms... Until finally I had to go in.”
Like Chesney, McAnally is a songwriter with a deep sense of urgency and being in the moment. By the time Chesney was done with his meetings to set-up his tour and talk about his next album, McAnally, Ross Copperman and Jon Nite had finished the song and had a working demo in place.
“Wrecking balls, downtown construction/ Bottles breaking, jukebox buzzing/ Cardboard sign says ‘The Lord is Coming’/ Tick tick tock...” begins the surging song that embodies the nervous rush of sonic overload. As the tempo builds, the layers thicken and the electric guitars rise, then shape the shafts of melody, as the song continues, “Rumors turn the mills back home/ Parking lot kids with the speakers blown/ We didn’t turn it on, but we can’t turn it off off off...”
“The chorus is very orderly, very much a staccato press,” Chesney says. “If there’s anything that sums up both the state of the world and the reality of what it costs us and feels like, it’s that. It’s all right there: ‘We scream, we shout til we don’t have a voice/ In the streets, in the crowds, it ain’t nothing but noise... drowning out all the dreams of this Tennessee boy/ Just trying to be heard... in all this noise’ says it all.”
Chesney has always been an artist to harness a moment and respond to his environment. Whether it was the freewheeling GRAMMY-nominated “American Kids,” the girl empowering “Wild Child,” the power of music and memory “I Go Back,” the way life’s tragedies can be its greatest gifts the Academy of Country Music Single of the Year “The Good Stuff” and “There Goes My Life,” “Noise” – arriving at country radio March 24th – may well be another one of those essential truths about life as we live it.
