Joan Jett & The Blackhearts headline Copperhead festival Friday

Joan Jett is an originator, an innovator, and a visionary. As the leader of the hard-rocking Blackhearts, she's had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics "Bad Reputation," "I Love Rock 'N' Roll," "I Hate Myself For Loving You," and "Crimson and Clover." She sits at the head of her own independent label, Blackheart Records. Jett has acted in movies and television, including 1987's Light Of Day, and in a Tony-nominated Broadway musical, The Rocky Horror Show. She has appeared on such acclaimed television shows as Oprah (the last season) and Law and Order.
As a producer, she has overseen albums by Bikini Kill, Circus Lupus, as well as the Germs' LA punk masterpiece, GI.
Her music has become a permanent force in mainstream culture. A version of "I Hate Myself for Loving You" has been NBC's Sunday Night Football, performed this past season by Carrie Underwood, and her music is heard in countless films and TV shows including Easy - A, Kick Ass, The Runaways, Shrek, Baby Mama, and many more.
Since co-founding the Runaways, the pioneering all-girl punk quintet, at age 15, Jett's determination and drive have kept her in the public eye. Jett was able to see her story told in The Runaways, the film based on (lead singer of The Runaways) Cherie Currie's book Neon Angel starring Kristen Stewart as Jett, and her fellow A-lister Dakota Fanning as Currie. Jett was close to the project: She served as an executive producer.
Jett and the Blackhearts continuously tour across the globe to throngs of adoring fans.
Joan Jett has spent her lifetime breaking barriers and challenging expectations - this is, after all, a woman who is both a spokesperson for PETA and a devoted supporter of the US Military. She's fought hard for all of her historic accomplishments, yet she remains humble and appreciative.
"I've had a blessed career," she says. "I consider myself so lucky to have been able to do things my own way."
Georgia Satellites also on Copperhead bill at Sparta

From their bar band roots to their chart-crashing megahits to their current tour of sold-out shows, The Georgia Satellites have kept the world moving to sweet, gritty, three-chord rock n roll.

Founded in 1985 by Rick Richards, Rick Price, singer Dan Baird and drummer Mauro Magellan, the Satellites quickly launched into stardom on the back of rockers like Keep Your Hands to Yourself, Battleship Chains, Hippy Hippy Shake and others.  Critically acclaimed albums and mind-bending performances earned the boys a permanent spot in music history.

They are best known for their 1986 top five hit single "Keep Your Hands to Yourself", and draw inspiration from Chuck Berry, Little Feat, The Rolling Stones, and AC/DC.
After a brief sabbatical following the departure of Baird, the Georgia Satellites reunited in 1993. After various lineups over the years, led by original member Rick Richards (lead guitar and vocals), along with Bruce Smith (bass and vocals), Fred McNeal (guitar, vocals) and Todd Johnston (drums) they continued to perform. The most recent album (1997) Shaken Not Stirred was a mix of re-recordings of their earlier material and eight new songs: "Running Out", "Let It Rock (Bye Bye Johnny)", "Deep in the Heart of Dixie", "Anna Lee", "My Fault", "Shaken Not Stirred", "She Fades Away", and "Rain".

Baird performs with his band, Homemade Sin, which features three former members of the Georgia Satellites. Mauro Magellan joined The Crashers after moving to Wisconsin in the early 1990s. Mauro played on both of Bairds solo albums and continues to tour with him as a member of Homemade Sin, which also includes bassist Keith Christopher, formerly of Keith and the Satellites. In addition, Dan Baird performs as a member of the country groups Trent Summar & The New Row Mob and The Yayhoos.

Along with his commitment to the Georgia Satellites, Richards also plays with former Guns n' Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin in his band, Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds. They toured in the 1990s and have recorded seven albums, most of which can be found on iTunes. Richards also does recording sessions with musicians of his genre. A snippet of 'Keep Your Hands to Yourself' currently on the radio in a car commercial has been giving a bit of exposure to and creating interest with various age groups.

THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND KEEPS ON ROCKIN’

In the early fall of 1973 Marshall Tucker Band was still a young and hungry group out to prove themselves every time they hit the stage.  Their debut album had already spawned numerous hits. “Way Out West!”-Live fromSan Francisco1973, their latest CD is a time capsule from that period.  “We were a bunch of young guys who didn’t know any boundaries” says founding member and longtime lead singer Doug Gray.  As it turned out, the collective talents of the Marshall Tucker Band took them very far indeed.  More than three decades later this galvanizingSan Franciscoperformance reminds us how it all began.
Still led today by founding member and lead singer Doug Gray, they represent a time and place in music that will never be duplicated.  Gray is quick to credit the band's current dynamic members with carrying on the timeless essence of the Marshall Tucker Band sound. Current members include slide guitarist Stuart Swanlund who joined the band in 1989, the highly respected drummer B.B. Borden, a former member of both Mother's Finest and The Outlaws, multi instrumentalist Marcus Henderson of Macon, Georgia, plays flute, saxophone and keyboards in addition to lead and background vocals, Pat Elwood on bass guitar, and Rick Willis on lead guitar and vocals, both of Spartanburg SC, are disciples of the Caldwell Brothers.  Together they present a powerful stage presence as they continue to tour the country and continue to be powerful force in the world of music.
The Marshall Tucker Band got its start inSpartanburg,S.C.when Gray teamed up with Tommy Caldwell and Toy Caldwell, Paul T. Riddle, George McCorkle and Jerry Eubanks, borrowing the name "Marshall Tucker" from a piano tuner whose name was found on a key ring in their old rehearsal space. In 1972, they signed with Capricorn Records, the same label that guided The Allman Brothers Band, Wet Willie, and others to national fame. The MTB opened shows for The Allman Brothers in 1973, and the following year, they began to headline their own shows acrossAmericadue to the platinum-plus sales of their debut album.  They toured constantly playing sheds, stadiums, theaters, fairs, and festivals.
In years to come, The Marshall Tucker Band would wow critics and influence major country acts likeAlabama, The Kentucky Headhunters, Confederate Railroad, and Travis Tritt with its definitive blend of rock, rhythm & blues, jazz, country, and gospel. Now, thanks to the expanding scope of today's music, a new generation of fans is learning what the rest of their fans have known for so long- that good music knows no boundaries.  Along the way, the band has recorded twenty two studio albums, three DVDs, three live albums and many compilations.
In 1980 Tommy Caldwell died as a result of injuries from an auto accident.  In 1984 Toy Caldwell, George McCorkle, and Paul Riddle decided to retire.  Doug Gray and Jerry Eubanks with the blessings of the other three continued to record and perform as the Marshall Tucker Band.  1n 1993 Toy Caldwell, who wrote the majority of their songs, passed away, as did George McCorkle in 2007.  Jerry Eubanks retired in 1996 and Doug Gray continues to lead the current band of fine musicians winning new young fans as well as satisfying the loyal fans of several generations.
Years of rigorous tour schedules earned the band the respect of critics and countless dedicated fans. With hit singles like "Heard It In a Love Song," "Fire On The Mountain," "Can't You See," and "Take The Highway," The Marshall Tucker Band earned seven gold and three platinum albums while they were on the Capricorn Records label. During the 90's, the MTB scored four hit singles on Billboard's country chart and one on Billboard's gospel chart. Their music has also been featured on the soundtracks of movies such as Smokey and the Bandit, The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper, Shipwrecked, Crank 2, Don’t Mess with Zohan, Stop Loss, Swing Vote, Taking Chance and many others as well as many TV Shows.
“The buying public never really cared whether we were country or rock and roll" says Gray. "They called us a Southern rock band, but we have always played everything from country, jazz, blues, Rock & Roll  and all things in-between. As we've become older," Gray grins, eyes twinkling, "our Southern heritage seems to come out even more. But no matter how old we get, we can still rock your socks off."  Gray also notes that people have gotten "married and buried" to classic MTB songs like "Desert Skies" and "Can't You See". After 41 years, The Marshall Tucker Band continues to be played on classic rock and country radio, and they have never stopped touring.
Today the band records on its own RAMBLIN’ RECORDS Label which is distributed by SONY by way of a joint venture with SHOUT! FACTORY and continues to record new material and continues to regularly tour the country to the delight of their fans, old and new.

Doobie Brothers coming with Boston on Friday night

As durable as American steel, Northern California’s four-time Grammy winning Doobie Brothers sound has become part of America’s musical firmament, sampled on dance records, reinterpreted on “American Idol,” and a fixture on radio formats from top 40 to classic rock.  They continue to write and record new material, tour the world, boasting one of the most loyal fan bases in music, all while breaking new creative ground in the exploration of their musical connection with Nashville.
Singer-songwriter-guitarist Pat Simmons says, “We have entered a territory that we never imagined for ourselves, as far as being a part of the cultural landscape. It’s kind of odd when you see your songs in television commercials and hear yourself as background music in a commercial business, but it’s cool. I hear B.B. King in the same places. We’re in good company”
The Doobies have rung up a glittering track record that would be the envy of any band. Beginning with their multi-million-selling sophomore collection Toulouse Street (1972), the Doobies have 3 multi-platinum, 7 platinum and 14 Gold albums.   Their Best of the Doobies (1976) has sold more than 11 million copies – a rare “diamond record.”   The Doobies propulsive roots-based, harmony-laden, guitar-driven style has sold more than 30 million albums.
Their No. 1 singles “Black Water” (1974) and “What a Fool Believes” (1979), both gold, lead a catalog of indelible songs that include  “Jesus Is Just All Right”, “Rockin’ Down the Highway”, “Long Train Runnin’”, “China Grove”, “Take Me In Your Arms”, Takin’ it to the Streets”, “Minute by Minute”, “You Belong to Me,” “The Doctor” and more.  In all, the Doobies have tallied up five top 10 singles and 16 top 40 hits.
In 2011, the band marked a new chapter.  They filmed a CMT Crossroads special with superstar Luke Bryan, and appeared for the first time ever on the Grand Ole Opry. Their relationship with Nashville continues to unfold, with a new country-based Doobie Brothers project recorded with some of country music’s biggest stars set for release later this year.
Formed in 1969 by Simmons, singer-songwriter-guitarist Tom Johnston, founding drummer John Hartman, and bassist Dave Shogren, the Doobies made their mark with a run of punchy, melodic hits on Warner Bros. Records. They attained radio and chart ubiquity in the late ‘70s, when the group’s expanded lineup was augmented by Michael McDonald, whose soaring lead vocals pushed the band to new commercial and critical heights.
The years have witnessed many changes in the Doobies, but the band’s most recent studio lineup harkens back to their earliest days. Simmons and Johnston continue to front the group. And multi-instrumentalist John McFee’s history with the Brothers dates back to 1978.
Simmons says, “The sound of the band is the same. Tom and I are still involved in writing the songs and arranging. It brings the sound of the early ‘70s back to the forefront. Tommy and I now have been working together longer than any other time the band has been in existence, steadily working every year, touring.”
The Doobies’ familiar and inimitable sound effortlessly draws from virtually every imaginable tributary of American music.
“We’re basically an American band – we cover a lot of areas,” says Johnston. “We cover blues, R&B, country, bluegrass, rock ‘n’ roll. It’s based on rhythms, rhythm structures, picking, and harmonies. That’s been the signature of the band.”
He continues, “Think about the influences that come into this band. You take Pat, who comes from a folk-blues background, with a lot of picking and stuff like that – he was a big fan of Rev. Gary Davis and Dave Van Ronk. I come from a blues, soul, R&B, and rock ‘n’ roll background. Then you stick John McFee into that mix – John came from a country background when he started out, and was in a country band, Southern Pacific. And he is a session musician – he’s played with everybody from Steve Miller to Van Morrison to Elvis Costello. If it’s got strings, he can play it.”
The Doobies’ unique blend of native styles came about with a lack of calculation that remains one of the key sources of their continuing appeal.
Simmons notes, “We didn’t really sit around and think, ‘Oh, we need this element or that element.’ The music has always been an honest representation of whatever we happen to be working on at the time. We had all been playing music for a long time before we put the band together, and our roots influences are what come out. Those influences always overtake whatever conceptual ideas you might have. It’s always been that way with this band — you always return to who you really are.”
While the Doobie Brothers continue to draw their sound from the deep well of the past, their music has always been grounded in the here-and-now, dating back to their very first hit single, issued at the height of the Vietnam War.
Johnston notes, “‘Listen to the Music’ was written thinking, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if world leaders could get together and, if they could communicated through music, as opposed to words, they might be able to find some sort of a bridge to get through our disagreements?’”
That approach is little changed in the new millennium. Their recent release World Gone Crazy’s title track, penned by Johnston, dwells on the economic tumult of 2011, while Simmons’ “Far From Home,” a moving reflection about a child taking leave of home, has a subtext familiar to any American family that has sent a son or daughter off to war.  The band’s concern for family and those who serve our country is reflected in their having raised over $3 million for veterans related causes.
The ability of the Doobie Brothers’ music to deal with the essentials of people’s lives in direct, tuneful, affecting songs has developed an audience that spans generations today.
Simmons says, “We have a hardcore fan base that has handed our music down through the years to their children and their children’s children. Repeatedly, people go to our concerts and come up to us and say, ‘My dad turned me on to you guys years ago, and I’ve loved you guys all this time, and my kids are listening to you now.”
“And the songs that people all know, be it ‘Listen to the Music’ or ‘Black Water’ or ‘China Grove,’ are still getting played,” Johnston adds. “Any song that stands the test of time for 40 years or is getting played around the country on a daily basis – that to me is a testament to the quality of the tunes, and that they had something to say that resonated with people. I’d like to say this band has been relevant – it’s been relevant musically, it’s been relevant lyrically, and we’ve always put out a high quality of music.”
The band took a five year respite then regrouped in 1987 for a series of gigs benefiting veterans’ groups and children’s charities, the Doobie Brothers have been taking their music to their fans regularly on tour.
Modest almost to a fault, the co-founders of the Doobie Brothers sometimes grope to define the characteristics that have led their band to become one of the country’s most enduring musical institutions. The fundamental appeal that has drawn listeners to his group for four decades may be best expressed by Simmons:
“In a certain sense, what this band has always had in common with everyone else is the word ‘hope,’” says Simmons. “We hoped we would make some good music, and we hoped there would be some acceptance, and we hoped that things would get better in the world. In that respect, we’re just the same – we’re still hopeful about the future. In my lifetime, there has always been struggle and challenge and some darkness, but with the sun shining through, and that’s what we all live for. You have to look towards the future and recognize that as long as there are thoughtful, intelligent people on the planet, there’s hope for the rest of us.”

CHARLIE DANIELS BAND NEW RECORDING OF "MY HOME" SET FOR 38TH ANNUAL MACY'S 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS® DISPLAY

On Friday, July 4th, The Charlie Daniels Band will help celebrate Independence Day as his newly recorded performance of “My Home,” written by the Emmy Award winning songwriting team of Doug Katsaros and William Schermerhorn, will be synced to dazzling pyrotechnics as the 38th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks® ignite the sky over New York City – Live from the Brooklyn Bridge. Set to deliver the nation’s largest display of patriotic firepower and ready to dazzle more than 3 million spectators and millions more on television nationwide, Macy’s Fireworks this year will be launched from barges positioned on the lower East River and from the world-famous Brooklyn Bridge.

"It's an honor to be a part of celebrating the birthday of the greatest nation on earth and an honor to be chosen to record this patriotic song that is going to be choreographed with one of the most spectacular fireworks displays that our country will see this year," says Charlie Daniels.

"As the song was being written for the fireworks score, we knew it had to be performed by an iconic American band that can get this country up on its feet!"  says William Schermerhorn, creative director for Macy's 4th of July Fireworks.  "It was thrilling to have Charlie and his band take this song and make it their own.  And nothing could add to our pyrotechnic celebration like the sound of Charlie Daniels' fiddle!"

Against the iconic New York City skyline, the 38th annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will fire more than 40,000 pyrotechnic shells and effects during an expertly synchronized display. Pyro Spectaculars by Souza is once again at the helm of the pyrotechnics set to launch from the Brooklyn Bridge and from three barges positioned on the lower East River between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges heading south towards the historic South Street Seaport district and the shores of Brooklyn’s famed piers and promenade.

“Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks are a one-of-a-kind spectacle that will once again inspire audiences nationwide as we illuminate the shores of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn with stunning effects, color and sound,” said Amy Kule, executive producer of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. “This year, we are thrilled to incorporate the magnificent Brooklyn Bridge as a showcase for never-before-seen effects and as a stunning backdrop to the multi-dimensional, hyperkinetic experience of the nation’s best Independence Day fireworks display.”

Beginning with the score, the musical blueprint to the high-flying explosions will be a patriotic wonder. The 25-minute display will be choreographed to dynamic new arrangements of both classic patriotic favorites and new musical selections. From “God Bless America” to “This Land Is Your Land,” the score will feature the talents of the all-female musicians of The DIVA Jazz Orchestra; with vocal artistry featuring Tony Award® winner Billy Porter helming the new song “It’s a Patriotic Kind of Day;” the world-famous Charlie Daniels Band on the patriotic “My Home;” and the acclaimed vocal ensemble Judith Clurman’s Essential Voices USA putting their special touch on “America the Beautiful.” In honor of the 200th Anniversary of “The Star Spangled Banner,” Broadway superstar and Tony Award winner Idina Menzel will inspire the entire nation with her heartfelt rendition of the National Anthem.

Since 1976, Macy’s Fireworks have grown in scale and artistry as they burst to life over many of New York City’s waterways and neighborhoods. Incorporating landmarks and milestones is a Macy’s Fireworks signature. Macy’s last showcased the Brooklyn Bridge in its Fireworks spectacle in 1995. This year’s more intricate and advanced creative presentation on the Bridge will accentuate a jam packed show of stunning effects.

Amy Kule added, “We’ve had our eyes set to feature this world-famous landmark in our show for many years and with the advancements in pyrotechnic technology and artistry, we expect to launch a series of custom effects at various featured points during the 25-minute show that will delight millions of spectators as this quintessential New York icon joins the 4th of July party.”

From a rapid fire comet chase along the roadways and towers to a stunning rainbow cascade effect, the highlighted moments of the Brooklyn Bridge’s integration into the show will enhance the dynamic multi-angle, multi-dimensional fireworks presentation along the lower East River. With 5,000 custom-made effects among others emanating from the Bridge at various points during the display, the presentation ranges from special accent moments to full-scale Bridge solos, creating a spectacle fit for the record books. The 38th annual display which begins at approximately 9:20 PM, will also debut new shells and effects including a red serpent star fish, puffy snowballs with red and blue centers, and amber colored glitter shells. Revelers lining viewing locations are encouraged to enjoy the full experience by tuning in to radio station 1010 WINS-AM to hear the musical score to which the show is choreographed.

Macy’s explosive spectacle is made possible in part by Cracker Jack®, FYI™ Network, The Howard Hughes Corporation’s South Street Seaport, Kool-Aid®, Planters®, South Street Seaport Museum, and is presented in partnership with the City of New York.

Fans joining the revelry in person along viewing points on the water will be in for extra special treats as the fun begins with two rumbling flyovers from United States Navy F-18 jets at approximately 7:30 PM and a patriotic flight from the NYPD Helicopter unit at approximately 7:45 PM. In addition, the FDNY will return with their famed 4th of July water show beginning at 8:00 PM. Public viewing locations and dedicated entry points will be set up along various streets in the South Street Seaport historic district for FDR Drive viewing in lower Manhattan and from various streets in Brooklyn for access to Brooklyn Bridge Park Piers 1-6, as well as the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.

Spectators from coast-to-coast will also have a front row view of the pyro in the sky by tuning to NBC’s national broadcast of “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” at 8:00 PM ET (check local listings). In addition to the pyrotechnics, the 4th of July’s most popular entertainment special will be hosted by Nick Cannon and feature performances from Ariana Grande, Hunter Hayes, Miranda Lambert, Lionel Ritchie, and more of the nation’s hottest musical acts.

Incidentally, the CHARLIE DANIELS BAND will be performing at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex on July 4 at the Stars & Stripes Celebration...https://www.facebook.com/starsandstripescelebration
